Having spent many an evening wandering around downtown in the era of 2006 through 2009, it is amazing to see what it is like now. It was such a ghost town then.

How did they work out for you? I didn’t know that such things existed, but now I want a pair. 🙂

New buildings in #AnnArbor will not be allowed to install #naturalgas connections. That’s if a proposal from the city’s planning commission is approved.

By requiring new buildings to only have electric items, like appliances and #heating systems, the planning commission believes it will help the City of Ann Arbor reach its goal of #a2zero #carbonneutrality by 2030.

My initial reaction was, “that will just export the pollution to the generating plant.”. I suspect that a coal burning plant generates less total carbon than thousands of individual gas burning devices, though. A quick Google search didn’t turn up any way to quantify that, though.

Thanks for sharing the article!

I am now compiling a list of all servers who may have an interest in joining the United Federation of Instances.

Quite a few instances have already signed up.

Please reach out to me, all servers of any size are welcome!

This is non binding, its just to get a preliminary list. You can withdrawl at any time and dont have to go through the application process. I just want to know what servers to reach out to once we begin kicking things off.

If you are a server admin please let me know **in DM** if you have an interest and I will add you to the (for now) private list. I want to only release the list once we have enough momentum so please respond in DM only.

for those who are new to this you can read the proposal here:

ufoi.gitlab.io/constitution/un

You can read the early draft of the full bylaws here:

ufoi.gitlab.io/constitution/un

Both of these will still undergo a lot of modification. For information on how to join the conversation see this post:

You can see the progress and conversation specifically at the official repo here:

Thank you for doing that! I looked on the about page, but didn’t see any place where I can kick in some cash to help keep the lights on. Do you have anything set up to accept donations?

Friends, hear me now.

If at any point in your online discourse, you find yourself about to write "according to science," or "statistically speaking," or Archimedes help me, "scientists now believe" ...

Stop.

Choose another phrase. Language is versatile. You can do the thing. I believe in you. Super great.

Please. I'm begging here.

I think that when I follow somebody, they are automatically added to my home feed. But once they are followed, I can add them to a list and remove them from my home feed by clicking the plus next to the list I want to add them to, and then clicking the minus on the home feed list. I’m pretty sure that I did that it using the desktop web interface.

I find that using the web interface to set up most of my follows and lists works well. I haven’t done a lot of that using my mobile client, though, but I haven’t really tried much of it since I switched to a paid app. I should probably explore that a bit more.

@7sleepersmusic
I once asked a co-worker if he was from Missouri, or Flint. I honestly did not know, but I did know that many people I have met from Flint have a Missouri accent due to that migration you’re referring to. (It turns out that he is from Flint, and also a really good bass player. We bonded over that conversation. 🙂)

"There is some evidence suggesting that our physical reality could be a simulated virtual reality rather than an objective world that exists independently of the observer."

For instance, there are fundamental smallest units of matter and energy (like pixels).

Now a physicist has proposed testable hypotheses.

This was pretty funny. It’s satire, rather than a real ad from back in the day, though, in case anyone wasn’t sure.
