My research involves quantifying trace, toxic, particulate matter with neutron activation analysis. This is the neutron generator I use to irradiate air sampled filters, which are then analyzed by gamma spectroscopy.

Deuterium gas feeds into the magnetron on the left, which is ionized into plasma. The plasma strikes a deuterium film target in the chamber on the right, producing helium and a neutron beam. Aluminum then moderates the beam to thermal energy.

I am a 76 year old pensioner living in southern Turkey. I have tried to get the hang of the language here but learned very little. I was born and bred in England where I spent most of my life up until I retired twelve years ago.
My persuits in life were many and varied including motorcycling fishing (sea and stream) shooting (shotgun and air rifle) and sightseeing by car.
My experience in IT, which seems to be quite popular in here was as a user only but I put it to its best use.

I have been a member here now for a whole day, first impressions..... I like it. I am a member of other forums and I have to say, I don't remember the response I have had in here on any other forum in such a short time, thank you all for the warm welcome.
I am still in learning mode but I am learning fast. I am looking forword becoming a fully fledged TOOTer.

@freemo Skeptics are alright to me, they are usually just not well informed, at least the ones I met. Even they'll admit the importance of having a healthy ecosystem thriving with life and providing us water, air and food anyway.

@PJanuszka This had me to sigh a bit... I really miss the times where most discussions were happening on forums.

I still think is likely the best discussion tool we have.

@StevenDBT @absolutus questions usually generate answers, here's hoping.
After moving here I became a citizen which gave me entitlement to all manner of things including full health care. I have been fortunate healthwise up to age 70. I had the most amazing birthday party at the local marina which was attended by most of my remaining friends from England. The tide turned against me and I was diagnosed with bladder cancer, cured by sugery in Istanbul. The follow up tests revealed the presence of prostate cancer again cured here by radio therapy. My eyesight was becoming less than perfect, cured here by removing my cateracts. What more could go wrong..... well on New Years day I had a heart attack. This require major open heart surgery. All fixed now I'm pleased to say. As a result of all the aforementioned I get regular checkups, so hopefully if anything else goes wrong it should get sorted in time.
Sorry to lay all this on you Steven but afte 60 you have to expect the worst but we're brave eh.
