@Beznell If what I learned from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S57uhCQBEk0 is accurate, then you can share the links to those videos here, and anyone that sees your message can watch and comment on the video. I'm not sure how easy it is yet tho, that video I linked is a very high level review, but it sounds promising.
@Beznell you might want to research PeerTube, a fediverse version of youtube. If what i learned is true, you ca even follow/interact with those instances from here.
#COVID19 Twitch keeps shutting this stream down every few days or so. They come back with a new account a day or so later and I for one am glad for that.

What are hospital ships? #USNSMercy #USNSComfort have deployed to alleviate the increasing demand hospitals are experiencing during the current #COVID19 #pandemic For more info: https://www.darwishmd.com/2020/03/hospital-ships.html @design_RG @freemo @zleap
@freemo That makes a certain amount of sense in my warped mind. Weird crap happing all over the world, people start to panic, they turn to "mainstream" systems that everyone is familiar with to try to keep up with everything.
I'm a nerd girl... still skimming under the surface of the net with irc and gopher and even I didn't know about the fediverse until very recently.
Now that the initial wave of panic has passed, the weird is a little more normal, boredom is settling in, people are exploring again.
I like the ice berg image of the internet. The tip being what everyone thinks of as the internet, the deep web being all the systems and routes and servers that make the internet run, the darknet being places you find on Tor...
With that imagery, the "known internet" really is like surfing. The deep web is like scuba diving, and the darknet means learning to pilot a sub. It seems to me like the fediverse is like snorkeling.
Funny thing about the fediverse... I really only found it because of twitter. Shelter in place, so much shut down, I started digging around in old info files on old tech and found my info for my old twitter that I hadn't used in 8 freaking years LOL.
I logged in, tooled around because I found a decent opera sidebar extension for it, then I thought... there's gotta be something better than this... right?
Thank you fediverse for existing.
@design_RG because code gives me a headache, there is a lot about it that I don't understand. Maybe someday it can be forked and this version can become the new standard. ❤️
@obi in the Federated Timeline, when you see a post from a domain you want to block, click the 3 dots (...) on the post and there is an option to hide everything from that domain. There might be a way to do it in the settings too, but I haven't looked for that yet.
So, I just discovered the fediverse in general in the last couple days. Like any time I find something new to me and interesting, I dove in head first with an obsessive need to learn more. I was like Hermione in a new library.
Here are 2 things I wish were different tho. First I wish all the instances used the same software, namely whatever qoto is using. In my exploring I have tried out a few instances and this one by far seems the best to me for its customizeability with things like blocking entire domains (I personally think this is better than an instance blocking another instance) and the lovely huge character limits.
Second thing I wish was different is the toot button. Would it be so bad for it to just say "Send" instead of Toot? I get where it comes from, but I've seen some people take mastodon less seriously because of it being called tooting, it kinda gives off a hipster vibe of trying too hard to not be "tweet," and it sometimes just makes me think of stupid fart jokes lol.
Other than those two points, I am loving the fediverse and my mind is blown with how explosively active the Federated timeline is.

I'm a trans nerd girl that is weird beyond imagining. Mix science, tech, spirituality, and philosophy, add a dash of synesthesia with a pinch of high-functioning autism spectrum, and you get the basics of me. I'm also a little dirty and kinky at times.
