@slightlyoff Agreed, and this paradigm needs to be applied in other axes as well. Work primarily in C#? You should know a bit about Visual Basic (higher) and C++ (lower) and have an inkling of assembly (much lower). If you only know one layer, you'll inherently limit yourself.

US, China, war, Taiwan

@z_everson I really find it hard to believe that will come to pass. Too many rich and powerful people in America would lose too much money if trade with China was halted due to war. They won't let the government take away their source for cheap child labor.

@spaceflight Yes, introducing water vapor and heat to the atmosphere is the point.

Also, the asteroids could be of other types of ice than water, such as methane or dry ice (CO2).

@spaceflight Not for artificial craft, generally, no.

The use case in question was to ablate a natural body (i.e. an ice asteroid) through a planet's atmosphere to modify its environmental conditions, i.e. as a step in terraformation.

@brad_frost And staggering to think how impossible that will be for future generations because of how badly we've mucked up copyright law.

If my "eat the rich" mentality wasn't cemented before, the fact that SVB paid out bonuses immediately before failing has done it.

People say that if America raises taxes on millionaires and billionaires, then they'll just go and run their business in other countries.

Good. GTFO.

@AriCohn @NatlSecCnslrs@mstdn.social @mmasnick Don't worry, if it's gonna fail, it won't be soon, it'll be in 5 years when your place floods while you're on vacation.

So the federal government is now stepping in to make sure the rich folks don't feel any pain so they don't retaliate by destroying our entire economy.

And, yes, I know "retaliate" is really "panic like a herd frightened sheep" but still.

We really are just peasants living in a world built for oligarchs.

@annmlipton So this is basically a stopgap until they can find a buyer? They're not actually permanently paying these people off with taxpayer money, right?

@nsarwark For most of my life, it was absolutely "disrespectful to the millions who died" to "[evoke] the Nazis". But it occurs to me that the reason why is analogous to why one should not falsely cry "Wolf".

Only now, the wolves are trying to convince us that the lesson of that parable was to remain silent even as they circle our homesteads, ready to strike.

@annmlipton Sounds like the large east coast banks are feeling pretty justified today.

"That's a nice economy you got there. How much you willing to pay to keep it?"

@brad_frost (A) What exactly does "terrible luck with USB cables" entail?
(B) What's the use case?

@trinsec @cajun_cheechako My mom got me one of these for Christmas a few years back. I love it, just for ease of cleaning alone. And it probably works a little bit better than the ulu, simply because it's pizza-width already.
