@ThinkingSapien Miles better than bans, but still kinda messed up to put a warning label on something we don't know is bad.
@OldAndCranky My great grandfather lived to be over a hundred and till the day he died, he had a weekly hard-drinking cigar-smoking poker game.
Do whatever works for ya!
people have been asking us for printed posters FOREVER but I've always been unsatisfied with just printing out the existing PDFs of our posters -- they didn't feel quite polished enough to me.
So I collaborated with the incredible Tanya at Inner Loop Press (check out their website! it's so good! https://www.innerloop.press/) to make this delightful risograph printed Debugging Manifesto poster.
they're not available just yet but they'll be on the store soon!
@javi Ha. Well, fwiw, some of us do (most notably our military).
@Oliviastarstuff That's okay, it's wrong anyway. 🤦♂️ 😆 Sorry, I was thinking of a different, but similar problem.
Your issue can be solved by tracking the time variable separately.
Instead of multiplying by the frequency by the time value when you feed them into the sin wave, store your own separate timer value and when you increment it each frame, multiply that increment by the frequency.
That way it will retain a consistent state between update frames, regardless of any jumps in frequency/timescale.
@MIfoodie Nice, what did you use to scan?
We've all done it, we told ourselves we are going to get into shape, eat better, exercise more, and then a week later, we're gassy, bloated, have diarrhea, pulled a muscle, and are just generally sore. We end up concluding that this just isn't for us, and there is something wrong with us.
Humans are often terrible at balance. We go from being couch potatoes eating processed food, to eating loads of fruits, vegetables, nuts, and whole grains, and then we're surprised when we feel awful, instead of great. Our bodies try to be efficient, and if you aren't using something, our bodies slow down production. We produce a bacteria that helps breakdown fiber, but if you aren't getting much fiber, your body isn't going to make much. It can take 2-4 weeks for your body to realize what your doing, and start producing enough bacteria. This is why many doctors and dieticians recommend getting more fiber in increments, increasing by 5 grams a week until you reach your goal. Also keep in mind that some people have conditions like gastroparesis, diabetes, and IBS, and it's very important to talk to a doctor before making major changes to your diet.
We do the same with exercise, going from very little to suddenly telling ourselves we are going to spend an hour in the gym every single day. Something people often overlook, is flexibility, and it's foundational. Instead of doing extreme workouts you aren't used to doing, start with a beginner's yoga routine first, and then just walk. Your body needs conditioning, and if you go straight into running, and an extensive weight lifting routine, you will hurt yourself. And as with changing your diet, a talk with your doctor about increasing your activity is a great idea too.
Honestly, I'm preaching to myself here, I'm not always good with balance. Humans can change their habits, but it is slow and incremental, and that's okay. We should be kind to ourselves, we don't need to be punished for not reaching some airbrushed goal. It's okay to have setbacks, you're still good enough, and worthy.
I haven't done a game jam since college, but I'm seriously considering entering this one.
@Oliviastarstuff If it helps, I've solved that exact problem before by treating the input as a radial angle (-pi to pi) instead of a linear input (time). Once the input is essentially a closed-loop circle, it becomes pretty easy to interpolate properly between two points.
@blitter I can only speak for myself, but when I find myself heteronormalizing around straight people, it's usually to avoid becoming further marginalized.
I think we do it as a defense mechanism. The gayer we seem, the more likely they are to try to take away our rights.
@blitter Same reason a mouse can only be themselves when not in the presence of cats.
USPol; new Louisiana law requires displaying Ten Commandments in public schools
@kagan I cannot wait until a judge orders Louisiana schools to also host the commandments of scientology and satanism in line with our constitution.

@johncarlosbaez I mean, in the sense of fluid dynamics, it does kind of make sense... fluid always flows from high pressure (positive) to low pressure (negative) in order to try to establish an equilibrium.
@levisan Hmm. I just tried it. That sounds strange to me without the second H.
@lucretia I would agree that disruptive actions are far less reprehensible than destructive actions.
> It's to cause direct negative effects to the owners of the thing being sabotaged
Is that worth it if it turns popular opinion against the saboteur, though? Seems like a one-step-forward-two-steps-back result before you even consider the moral implications.
> I would argue that if anyone is being childish, it's someone who decides they oppose enviromentalism simply because the news told them that some activists broke something
There's a big difference between supporting a moral or idea and supporting a cause. For example, I'm all for ethical treatment of animals, but fuck PETA. Ultimately, we're social creatures, so if activists act like lunatics, then normal people will want to distance themselves from those lunatics, and they do so by distancing themselves from the activism.
