@Alice Great! So give up your beliefs and come unite with the side you disagree with!
@yacc143 @MoiraEve Just to address the first of your examples... the relevant New Mexico law is included below. In short, they can be replaced by the party as soon as 70 days before the election.
As I understand it, most states have provisions like this.
The people who are telling you otherwise aren't telling the full truth.
@yacc143 @JRHorsting Many countries have their entire elections in the span of a month. I find it very hard to believe that we can't pick a new candidate in America 4 months out.
Plus, as I understand it, in most states, a vote for the party is a vote for whoever their candidate is, even if they aren't specifically printed on the ballot (like if the guy dies before the election).
I see billionaires as similar to the patients on the show Hoarders who live surrounded by piles of trash and filth and in need of professional therapy.
Billionaires' filth is the dirty financial spoils of cheating and theft.
Most people would be satisfied with a few million dollars and retire to do something fun, fulfilling, and relaxing.
Billionaires can't quit. They need more and bigger piles.
I want to see the Hoarders show pivot to covering billionaires.
The licensed clinical specialist would show up to ask questions and evaluate the billionaire:
Why do you need to accumulate so much wealth?
What sort of trauma are you attempting to repress?
Will you ever be able to use all the wealth you have in your lifetime?
Do you realize how your illness affects your family?
Will you commit to further treatment after we leave?
The professional "extreme cleaners" would be philanthropy facilitators and tax collectors.
Once you see Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Rupert Murdock and their ilk as mentally ill wealth hoarders, you can't unsee it.

@MoiraEve My understanding is that the whole "write-in" thing isn't really true. There's very little stopping us, logistically, from switching candidates for the ballots.
The warchest possibly being "lost" is true, though it could still just be shifted into PACs that support the candidate just as much, so it's also not the end of the world.
@MoiraEve @JRHorsting You're damn right I would.
Have we hit the absolute dumbest news cycle of the election already?
My money is on "emphatic no".
We like to give white people a hard time for being bad a cultural slang. But they have always been super creative at coming up with new ways of saying the n-word.

@JRHorsting Biden *is* the problem because he is no longer the solution. We need someone who can energize the electorate, get out the vote in the middle, and make a clear and compelling case for why Trump is an existential threat.
Biden was that man in 2020. He is no longer that man in 2024.
Despite everything (*waves arms around*) going on, I think this article might actually be the true harbinger of our dystopia.
Nike is killing its app for $350 self-tying sneakers.
Companies over-promise us the future we've dreamed of, if only we download their app. Then they underdeliver. Then they take away what they underdelivered and laugh all the way home with the profits.
@rodneylives I'm much less worried about him running again and much more worried about a sequel to J6, this time backed by secretaries of state that have already been installed by the MAGA movement.
@rodneylives That would be nice, but it's not super realistic. *If* he doesn't win, he's not going to go quietly into the night.
@godotengine The problem is, while it may seem that adding Discord is only an addition to the community, that's deceptive. It actually incentivizes the community to move to the ephemeral option for faster support.
Even users who would prefer the forum end up using the Discord because that's where the fastest help from experts is.
In doing so, the entire community loses from making the institutional knowledge created by such troubleshooting sessions temporary and unsearchable.
@peterdrake Don't you just leave regular pretzels out for 24 hours? In my experience, that's enough to make them load-bearing.

@cohomologyisFUN The problem with that is that they kept Biden behind closed doors for that nomination process.
If we had seen the debate performance before the primary, it may not have gone the same way.

They guarantee it by checking photo IDs against AI-powered facial scans.
I'm not sure what the overlap is between "redneck gun owner" and "willing to submit to AI facial scan" but I can't imagine it's big enough for this company to make a profit.
