This one is mostly false, with tons of historical references, temporal twisters, and other Easter Eggs. Have fun!

Although an avid streamer, FDR was confined to a wheelchair so he rarely did IRL, instead limiting his online social engagement to Fireside Chats. His frequent use of social media, at the time known as “bulletin board systems”, gave Roosevelt an advantage over his frequent rival, Adlai Stevenson, who didn’t even know how to use a mouse.

@trinsec

I'm not interested in crypto, either.

What I like about this film is the unique plot. About 90% of scifi today is just repeating the same old tired plot over and over again. This one is completely new and it helped me to see aspects of a social perspective that I had previously been mostly unaware of.

@lupyuen

You mean I'll have to go down to pick up the robots myself?

@peterdrake

"Dense" implies a general intellectual disability, an inability to comprehend new ideas, whereas missing hints may indicate a specific social communicaion disorder not accociated with intellectual difficults.

(yeah, I got the pun.)

This was a great movie, but the ending was somewhat anticlimatic.

@trinsec

The action doesn't start until the second half of the film.

Also, you didn't get to the part where they talk about inflation.

I think anyone interested in crypto currencies would definitely want to see this one.

My favorite adaptation of the novel is Activision's FPS video game.

Retro SciFi Film of the Week…

In Time (2011)

This one is definitely in my top-ten list of best science fiction films ever made.

When I sat down to watch this, I thought it was going to be some cheap, exploitive film to take advantage of Justin Timberlake’s fame, but it turns out that he can actually act. And he’s a very good actor, world class.

The premise of the film is that time, instead of money, is the currency. Everyone is genetically engineered to stop aging at 25 years old, but then their built-in clock starts ticking and if they don’t refill it, then they die. People who acquire a lot of time can live forever in their 25-year-old body.

Highly recommended. (The film, not the economic system :)

You know what I think about all this.

Black holes that accrete whole star systems are on a planet-based diet.

@trinsec

I agree.

I wonder what would happen if you just deleted all those fonts from your system -- if website would even render properly.

@mc

The larger the asteroid, the further out we can detect it, and therefore the more time we have to divert it. The sooner you hit it, the more it is deflected.

But that's for asteroids in our system. A large, dense rogue planet traveling at very high speed (maybe from a system that went supernova) that arrives in our system may not be able to be deflected in time with our current detection/deflection capabilities.

Thus the "...at least this time."

In case any of you font designers are confused...

@mc

This one is 100% true, although parts of it may seem like they are not.

The asteroid was never on a collision course with Earth. This was just a test of our capability to divert asteroids. Dimorphos was chosen by NASA because it was within telescope range of Earth so as to make observation of its course change easier to determine (among other reasons). This implies that the asteroid was going to hit Earth and was prevented from doing so. If you read the carefully, it never explicitly says that the asteroid was going to hit Earth. However, it says, “The success of the mission means we will not have to face the same fate as the dinosaurs...”, which is true. The success of this mission means that we will be able to divert future asteroids which may actually be on a collision course with Earth.
