@OrbitalGardens For me, I don't think about the distinction between kindness and politeness. I cultivate, "this is the person I want to be, this is how that person behaves" and set that standard as a guide for behavior in general and attempt to ingrain that as a habit. There may be a difference, but as a pattern of behavior, I don't think about it.
@freemo @lavenderlens @trinsec @War_Kittens pity the bad actors can't exercise their right to STFU and sit TF down. @brynntannehill isn't comfortable Mastodon is a good fit for her. I'm not clear on the specifics, and I'm in no position to say otherwise. But I'm happy to see the effort involved in making Mastodon protected against the very things Tannehill warns about.

Agreed. The back story is long and crazy. But in short the LGBTQ and others in the community at the time were being mass banned simply for following bad actors, even when they didnt boost, promote, or in any way show sympathetic leaning towards those bad actors.
The reason they were following them was to watch their account for violent threats and then disseminate that throughout their community for safety. But many instance admins didnt care and blocked/banned anyway.
As a result the LGBTQ community in masse migrated here for their safety.
We added a feature for them called subscribe. It lets you follow a person without them knowing you are following them. BUT it only lets you access the posts that person gives you permission to view (basically public posts, you cant see follower-only posts on a subscription). We did this so members of our community could follow these bad actors without alerting them and putting themselves at risk of violence or retaliation.
People again twisted this feature into being privacy violating despite the fact that it honors the privacy rules set by the poster.
Needless to say a lot of people were very mad that their blocking and banning abuses were coming back to bite them in the ass and ultimately distorted and lied the truth about QOTO and our feature to try to make it sound like something evil when it wasnt... those lies persist to this day.
@hacks4pancakes I think it's great Mastodon has an automatic MAGA filter... you have to think and make well reasoned choices. They can't go for that; no can do.

She's right there waiting for her 'in case I snacked' breath freshener. She normally doesn't snack, but the freshener treat is a tradition. Hopefully. Tilly scarfs the treat and vanishes while I put the box away. My place in my own bed is occupied. She permits me to slide in. I'm warm.

@nogajun That particular page does not show the mentions of dev comments or page links. It can be found, but not by me while preparing for sleep. It is enough for me to know this feature DOES NOT work to secure messages, as clients connecting to my server are warned, and I wish it did work. I'm using GeyserMC which requires this to be set false for that plugin to work.
That said, you are fear mongering over steps taken to prevent clear and obvious harm in violation of the terms of service. If your intent is to cause harm, pick another game.
@nogajun What source? The Java byte code is there for you to read yourself. The Bedrock code where this policy has been in place as part of Xbox and is only relevant as to how it has affected those players. Has it?

@danielschuman Mastodon has a significant built-in filter against the Republican Party: You have to be able to think and make logical, well-reasoned choices. That makes this platform a total non-starter for the GOP congress-critters.

I'm ending the experiment where my server group played on Bedrock. The parity issues were too annoying. I've commented on it elsewhere. For this run, we will use https://www.reddit.com/r/minecraftseeds/comments/tkatb0/the_island_with_a_village_a_mansion_and_a_huge/ which also gives details on how to find one's own particular wonderful seed to start with.
For this, no plugins EXCEPT for Floodgate and GeyserMC so my nephew can play as well as, hopefully, our grandkids. We shall see how that pans out. No data-packs, no recipes. Honor system, no Fabric mods or other mods. As pure a vanilla experience as we can get. Let the challenge begin!
