@leahmcelrath Do you know if she is well? It's been ages since she updated her website, and she's... not so young. 😢
@leahmcelrath OMG WTF LOL! If I can't login, I guess I'm done with it. The moron...
@rbreich That, and wealthy proponents of anti-abortion like politicians and pastors just go out-of-state. "They will know we are Christians by our love." Or at least the license plates in states that permit health care for women.
@antares While I agree with Libertarians on a personal, philosophical basis, their ideas don't scale up to the public arena.
@markoftheD Yay and stuff! Good to see you here. :)

Oh dear! I'm just an armchair space enthusiast, but my understanding of n-body is that it's just plain evil black-magic. I'm glad it exists, but ... wow. Evil. Pure evil.
Welcome!
@ordabchao23 My server is older set. Me, my wife, her adult son, a retiree and another older gentleman. We are currently working a pure survival on SpigotMC. We have a plugin to allow bedrock so my young nephew can play also.
@howardtayler þis is a þorn in my side.
@War_Kittens @freemo @lavenderlens @trinsec Perhaps not, but I consider Tannehill a valuable person even if I don't know her personally. I'm simply not in a position to persuade her she is mistaken, and I *SURE AS HELL* don't want to be the person to "mansplain" Mastodon to her. I find her analysis of various topics excellent, very well thought out, superbly written, and I don't know enough about the specifics of her concerns to even begin.
@chowbok https://qoto.org/@trinsec/109336465284616122 may help with concerns you expressed on that other place... I *think*. You are welcome to join the conversation as you find fit.
@arush https://syrinscape.com/ was created by and for TabletopRPG players for use in games. It primarily has sound effects and background ambient noise. I'm using https://foundryvtt.com/ to remotely connect players, then I use https://vac.muzychenko.net/en/ for an "Audio out" I can control independently, using a streaming service to the TeamSpeak session we all use.
This allows me to use Syrnscape or play music from my machine for the benefit of all the players. I can insert smashing and explosions at well, and everything is "grouped" around what I'm doing at the time.
NOW for me to look at the link *you* posted to see what tools I can add to my bag of goodies! :)
@trinsec
Thank you for your prompt response. Yes, this platform has a very different feel to it culturally. I'm also quite pleased with the MAGA filter: you have to think and make well-reasoned choices to sign in.
@nogajun https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/minecraft-snapshot-22w17a search for "Multiplayer Secure Chat Signing."
1) You are free to disable it on your server.
2) If you do, any connecting client is *warned* you have done so.
3) Some plugins such as GeyserMC throw an error unless this is disabled.
4) Unless you can come up with specific, verified situations that are a cause for concern, you are simply fear-mongering and click-baiting. Stop it.

https://birdsite.wilde.cloud/users/brynntannehill/statuses/1591793016829870081 is what she referenced. I'm not familiar enough with Tannehill's concern or how it plays out here in this context. I will see if I missed a post where she clarifies "silo" but it seems relevant to this discussion.
I have only come here seeking knowledge... things they would not teach in college.
@mistakenotmy it's because of the way servers federate posts between themselves. If no-one follows me on a particular server, none of my posts exist on that server. As soon as someone there follows me, the server starts getting my new posts, but it doesn't go back and get the old ones.
I have a thread (on twitter, apols) with some observations about the unexpected ways Mastodon differs from Twitter.

@OrbitalGardens For me, I don't think about the distinction between kindness and politeness. I cultivate, "this is the person I want to be, this is how that person behaves" and set that standard as a guide for behavior in general and attempt to ingrain that as a habit. There may be a difference, but as a pattern of behavior, I don't think about it.
@freemo @lavenderlens @trinsec @War_Kittens pity the bad actors can't exercise their right to STFU and sit TF down. @brynntannehill isn't comfortable Mastodon is a good fit for her. I'm not clear on the specifics, and I'm in no position to say otherwise. But I'm happy to see the effort involved in making Mastodon protected against the very things Tannehill warns about.
Agreed. The back story is long and crazy. But in short the LGBTQ and others in the community at the time were being mass banned simply for following bad actors, even when they didnt boost, promote, or in any way show sympathetic leaning towards those bad actors.
The reason they were following them was to watch their account for violent threats and then disseminate that throughout their community for safety. But many instance admins didnt care and blocked/banned anyway.
As a result the LGBTQ community in masse migrated here for their safety.
We added a feature for them called subscribe. It lets you follow a person without them knowing you are following them. BUT it only lets you access the posts that person gives you permission to view (basically public posts, you cant see follower-only posts on a subscription). We did this so members of our community could follow these bad actors without alerting them and putting themselves at risk of violence or retaliation.
People again twisted this feature into being privacy violating despite the fact that it honors the privacy rules set by the poster.
Needless to say a lot of people were very mad that their blocking and banning abuses were coming back to bite them in the ass and ultimately distorted and lied the truth about QOTO and our feature to try to make it sound like something evil when it wasnt... those lies persist to this day.
@hacks4pancakes I think it's great Mastodon has an automatic MAGA filter... you have to think and make well reasoned choices. They can't go for that; no can do.
