@freemo @inditoot @_lunawinters I have a friend. He couldn't finish college. He tried to do programming but constantly run into frustrations of poor instructions and lack of help and encouragement from his college. He spends most of his time playing video games and "running away from reality" that is his own future, let alone reality of the world. If he tries to face reality, all that greets him is the "reality" that there's no place in this world for him. No one wants an unmotivated "lazy ass" like him. He is not able to function in this society and likewise this society has no place for him.

And yet he is my absolute best friend. He talked me out of feeling worthless when I couldn't make anything work. He nudged me into game jams and gave me ideas for me to work on. He played games with me and helped distracting me on days when I feel like shit, not just shit about myself but shit about society and "reality". Everytime I slip, I got back on my feet because he yanked me out of "reality" and helped me experience a better way of life, proving to me that it is totally possible to feel better about yourself, and all the more proof that before you can save the world, you gotta save yourself first.

He's totally running away from reality, but in his case, I hope he won't ever have to face it. If anything, reality doesn't deserve his gift.

@freemo You've put a lot of hardwork into qoto. You deserve this achievement.

Seems is seeing a third wave of users coming in now. Back when we peaked during the indian exodus we had about 200 new users a day or more, it fell back down to 32 users a day as of 2 days ago, but now today we are back up to 79 new users a day right now! Very cool.

We have also seen a nice spike in toot count, which is good to see, especially considering all the excellent STEM content I see in my steam, loving it!

This pattern seems normal for qoto everytime we have a new wave of users to mastodon. We first get an initial wave, it settles down, then we get a second wave as users learn about the network and decide to migrate over to qoto. It is all very exciting to see.

I'm curious about how this comes about though. Is it just people learning about the network, word of mouth, or perhaps some other factor. As a Data Scientist I crave more data purely out of curiosity.

Either way, welcome new users!

@iamo
I just went through your profile and it sounds like you're vastly misunderstanding what fedi is. Like @freemo said, you can try an instance that do more content blocking for you, or mute instances that repeatedly offend you.

@SwooshyCueb
I saw Brave doing an IAmA in Reddit few days ago. They're definitely trying to make a come back.

Brave is showing up in my newsfeeds again, so

Periodic reminder that Brendan Eich, the CEO of Brave Software, is a homophobe who donates to anti-LGBT organizations.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't use the browser. But you should probably be wary of any monetization attempts, since we know where that money will go.

@design_RG I haven't visited a liquor store in Scotland yet, but I imagine it's a lot better here than Canada, being the home of whiskey and all. Heck, supermarkets here dedicate a whole row for alcohol.

@design_RG Don't know if I have spirits at hand, but your mention of alcohol reminds me that I need to find mead here. They were hard to come by in Australia.

I keep the lemons around for health reason. I get throat infection very easily and often find myself having to consume crazy amount of vitamin C. However I've been once advised to down a shot of whiskey to kill a cold, and it actually gave a good relief - cleared my sinus and numbed any pain that was present.

@design_RG Honey lemon was the result. 7 lemons left now.

It's spelled "outline.com", but it's pronounced "Fuck no I'm not enabling Javascript on your fucking pants so-called Website".

> yearns fruit juice

> blatantly ignores the 8 whole lemons in fridge

@mngrif Well you need time to start a campfire for them so if you have a schedule, it's not too feasible anyway. @freemo

@freemo Australian natives used to thrive on lizards too. Down under has some silly lizards that "look toxic" as their defense mechanism, but are completely safe to eat.

3 different missing people from Glasgow news today, yikes.

Reading theguardian.com/technology/201 I have to say:

Make The Web simple again! Those organizations won't because of the sheer inertia they face within and outside their projects (which is fine for now), but someone has to.

For software developers: please contribute to NetSurf, Dillo, my own Rhapsode, and/or create your own take. For webdevs: make sure your sites look fine there.

@freemo Back in uni I got this second hand book, titled something like "mathematics of line art in Adobe Flash". I wasn't using Flash, but I had an interest in 3D graphics back then and was going to learn some maths for the purpose of computer art from this book.

I eventually forgot and abandoned it. I guess I've ended up on different paths since.
@design_RG

@a9 OH MY GOD i just looked at the actual source code and i can't BELIEVE i actually submitted this as an assignment

@design_RG
I struggle to appreciate maths partly because of my Asian upbringing. It's never seen or appreciated as something beautiful. To them, if you don't get it in words and numbers, then "ur dumb".

And I struggle to learn from things that I can't associate their beauty with :/ Now I appreciate science in the forms of bite size interesting facts, but I can't find myself deep diving into it.
