I'm waiting for the new users to say something here and welcome them :mastodance:

@Sphinx You can also post a welcoming post without a name inserted.

Make it nice writing, include a nice and relevant image. Repeat once a week or so, changing the message and image.

In personal welcome messages to new users, I always like to include a couple of Mastodon Guide links -- most new people need that, the Fediverse is VAST and Mastodon itself is full of controls and settings, privacy levels, Federation, etc.

Guide is definitely NEEDED.

@Sphinx Alas, this brings to mind -- how much better adding some socializing in the Local feed could make this instance. I find it sorely missing, compared to a few months ago, but many good people who frequented here have left for any particular reason.

@design_RG
Good advice,
I feel like there is more serious problem or phenomenon is they got their account post a hi to everyone message and never come back(•_•)

@Sphinx The places in Fediverse are not like Facebook, there's no cheering when someone who is already know to a member joins, here it is more anonymous.

And that suits some, many people who are privacy concerned. But the casual ones, posting a Hello message and not getting any reactions, those might not come back, yes.

Qoto was my first ever Fediverse experience, I found it based on JoinMastodon.org, but selected it based on the instance description, theme.

Got lucky to come in at a good time (November's Indian Diaspora was moving from Twitter to Fediverse), and to find a good instance. I liked it, and was soon getting involdved and learning the ways of the place and the software.

However -- if my very first instance had been less optimal, say something like masto.social -- I wouldn;t have lasted 3 days either.

Being completely honest on this, I want to write someday about this - from personal experience to my view as a community builder and staff member, besides being part of many other communities too.

Nomad, that's me. I like to see the several Caravanserai out there.

Images galore, beautiful places : bing.com/images/search?q=Carav

@design_RG
I still remember the time when you apply for the moderators. I was going to but I didn't. but still, feel like it's a good place here.

@Sphinx Oh, that is awesome!

We are looking for Talent, Sphynx -- please consider and mention it if you would like to join the Team, we have discussed that recently and are scouting for talent.

Plus, I get the HeadHunting Bonus if you join, lol.... :P

@Sphinx I've seen that too. For me it took some time since I made some connections and started to figure out how things work here. I believe it's discouraging for many.
When I joined mastodon a few months ago I was greeted by @design_RG (even with a link to a Mastodon guide in Spanish) and that helped.

@Sphinx He does. I think he's mixing some Portuguese there though XD
@design_RG

@miguel31416
i think his Spanish is better than mine.
reminds me that does "puto" is a very bad word in spanish?
maybe putao. some thing like that.

@design_RG

@miguel31416

Yes, I am fluent in Portuguese and not so much in Español; there's this thing that we think we can get away with Portuguese words, so similar sometimes. Which word was the give away? Conosco ? (with us)

Con nosotros, claro!

@Sphinx

@miguel31416 @Sphinx Which reminds me, I was going to suggest to Sphynx that maybe he could try out the Slowly pen pal application, we can make friends all over the world and it's great for language practice too.

Please consider it -- my own Spanish in writing really improved since I first started to correspond with Spanish speaking folks.

@miguel31416

Miguel -- if you do come across a good or awesome Mastodon guide in Spanish could you let me know? I have read many in English but not so much is available in Spanish; so a native's recommendation would be great. Thank you!

@Sphinx

@design_RG I remember I found some interesting guides but right now I can't locate them. I'll search later

@Sphinx

@miguel31416 @GatoOscuro

Wonderful - Thank you! I am going to read and add it to my references. I just read the LifeHacks guide that i recommend all the time, read it once again this morning - and still find it very good. I remember it was were I learned to understand this new place I had ventured into.

@design_RG just realized that Gato Oscuro means Dark Cat, just perfect for you

@miguel31416 Thanks for the boost, I appreciate it and better, I'm glad I served
