Went to a brewery for a few drinks with the labmates, and the guy pulling the pints recognised me from singing shanties at a different local bar. Maybe inner city areas can be communities after all (or at least encompass them)

I am happy to see how many veggies can grow underneath a small 6 sqm polytunnel.
Right now plants are not doing better than the outside ones, but it's a good insurance in case of bad weather.

Since I do not mulch anymore here (plants are very close), irrigation is automated and I don't have to worry about bad weather... is basically a 1 day job and don't think about it again until food is ready!

Solution: double dispatch. I replaced:

A result = otherObject.foo();
if (result instanceof B) {
B b = (B)result;
d.doSomething(b);
} else {
C c = (C)result;
d.doSomething(c);
}

with :

otherObject.foo().doSomething(d);

where B and C have different definitions of doSomething.

As desired, otherObject still can't call doSomething, even on Bs and Cs it creates, because it doesn't have access to d.

I wrote two thousand words today. I am still about four days behind, but hey, I did a lot more than the last few days. But says I have to do at least 2300 words a day to finish on time. Oh well. Maybe next year. Even if I don't make it, I am going to finish the book in December.

These many interests are fueled by the fact that we are indeed living in the 'Second Industrial Revolution'. The world is inviting us to create, to invent, to innovate. And the tools are available for us to do so.

I'm interested in so many things, that I am pulled apart in many directions because of my limited time. I need "Interest Management" more than 'attention management' or 'time management' :)

So, I'm going to get a kitten next Thursday. First time I've had a pet in almost a decade. I'm freaking out a little, honestly.

Let's Go: Eevee/Pikachu Thoughts/Review. CWed for Length

So. I got the new Pokemon game over the weekend and here are my thoughts:

In handheld mode this game is truly fantastic. I tried it out of handheld mode and hated it- but I don't really like motion controls in general when they're overbearing.

In Let's Go: Eevee/Pikachu the motion controls are overbearing. You can't even use a pro controller when the system is docked. There isn't any option to change the motion controls while docked, or in the table-top mode with Joy-Con removed from the console.

Being that said I really like the game. A lot. I've been having great fun coming back to the world of Pokemon after so long away. It is, after all, a remake of the Gen 1 games- the first Pokemon games I played. There is a nostalgia factor there.

I have the Eevee version of the game. Eevee is fantastic. So cute. I love the partner play aspect and I adore that growing that friendship with the Eevee nets actual game benefits. This goes onto your other pokemon as well, with their relationship with you gaining benefits in battle.

Now onto the most interesting change- the catching mechanics.

I'll admit, as a fan of the original run of games, I wasn't sure I'd like this mobile pokemon go style of catching.

I've found it to be surprisingly fun and engaging, at least, in handheld mode. ( Not to shout too loud on the motion controls, of course. Accessibility in console gaming has been an issue for my entire gaming life, so at least the last thirty years.)

It took a little getting used to, sure, but catch combos and leveling my team of pokemon became a lot easier through just catching pokemon than via battle. I hesitate to call it 'easy mode' because I'm still terrible at it.

But it is nice to be able to see what pokemon are in the grass as you wander around and to chase down the ones you want. The catch combos allow for progressively better pokemon to show up, and once you unlock the 'Judge' ability it becomes a bit addictive to try and find the PERFECT Pokemon of whatever type you want.

I applaud Nintendo and Game Freak for adding the Judge ability. It opens up that whole Individual Value training thing that's been so behind the screen and impossible to understand unless you study how it is supposed to work. I seriously don't want to do math homework for a video game.

In the end, I'd like to say that the Let's Go games are pretty good and I've enjoyed them so far and I'm looking forward to some more play with them.

PS: I'm looking towards adding more Switch Nintendo friends, so if you want to trade friend codes let me know! I've got Mario Kart, and would be happy to trade them pokemans.

Sometimes I wonder if the word "boost" is just too alien, like if you're telling someone outside of Mastodon that you're boosting something, what do they think you're talking about. It was "reblog" originally. Oh well
