EVs are “likely crucial” for tackling transport CO2, says the IPCC – and sales are rocketing

But EVs still face relentless hostile media coverage

So, I spent the past few months debunking 21 (!) of the most common EV myths

i think what's missing from so many narratives right now is that rampant and ongoing antisemitism does not erase the massive power imbalance between voices representing Israel & Palestine's interests.

antisemitism is painful and ongoing, but Israel is backed by the most powerful military, media, and state apparatuses on the planet, and has been for decades. acknowledge how this power imbalance transforms perceptions about the lives and stories of Palestinian human beings

When we talk about Palestinian responsibility in Hamas attacks, it's important to note that not only are half too young to vote, but no one has had the chance to vote in 16 years.

The vast majority Gazans have never been enfranchised in their lives. They've never known a government that represented them.

It's like blaming Afghan women for the Taliban, and then bombing them to make the Taliban do something different. We're just piling more pain on oppressed people without helping anything.

@1dalm It is my belief that all life has the spark of the sacred within it and that mortality is contained within that the spirit that gives all creatures the gift of life.

from the arrived at my door while I was at work yesterday. wrote this novel during Covid so I think it is fitting that I finished it on one day while I was stuck on the couch too feverish to do anything else thanks to yesterday's on-two punch of Covid and Seasonal flu .

Now the question is what will I do tomorrow. If the pattern from my last booster holds, I will still be calling in with a fever on Monday.

@Hypx Did someplace pass a mandate and not merely a requirement for Zero-Emmisions Vehicles?

California's ban on ICE cars allows those hydrogen powered s that you think are the real future, and it is the only state I know that as passed such a mandate. The EU's 2035 ban in ICE vehicles seems to also allow them.

@freemo You thing that's bad compare a Hollywood sword fight to the real thing. In fact if you start paying attention to the folly sound you will drive yourself nuts because everything in a movie makes a cliche noise. For example principle actors in movies always walk on hollow wooden boxes or loose gravel while an extra in the same scene walks over the same surface like a ghost on Sunday.

To protect your privacy and shield yourself against 0-days and malicious advertisers, an adblocker is an important part of your security stance.

The FBI, NSA, CISA, and UK National Cyber Security Centre all recommend adblocking as a protective measure.

You'd never disable your firewall or antivirus because a site asked you to. NEVER DO THIS WITH YOUR ADBLOCKER.

That's the only pertinent point here. Everything else is noise.

I just want to say thanks to the majority here who seem to use alt text on their images.

It's made things so much better and it's not something that's happening on every site.

It's a little effort, I know, but it's noticed.

OTD, two major victories for the US in the Revolutionary War:

1777: British General John Burgoyne surrenders at Saratoga to Horatio Gates. The victory convinces France to join the war on the side of the US.

1781: British General Lord Cornwallis surrenders to George Washington at Yorktown (although surrender negotiations would last two days). The victory essentially ends the war in favor of the US.

Fully remote. $20-25/hour.

if anyone knows anyone interested, please let me know.

Genocide is usually insanely popular where ever it occurs, and there is always a justification for it. Almost always is that some group of people is so dangerous and savage that they must be wiped out of existence. In the 20th century the world took a good look at itself and what justifying genocide had led to and decided the world was to dangerous and violent a place to ever allow another genocide to be justified by any nation for any reason no matter how locally popular. The people world said, "Never again!" and promised one another that that we would not fail to intervene to stop genocide no matter what the supposed justification.

@USConst_Amend_I it is important to remind people that your protection from government over reach is not a mere theoretical possibility, but a actual occurrence in places where speech is not subject to the most rigorous level of protection - even when those place are "advanced western democracies" like the state of Israel.

@volkris This is unfortunately still true, and we should add coal in there as well. I think it is reasonable to clean up the power grid, and in fact that process is already underway.

I suspect Hypx will want me to call out that the hydrogen economy can also be cleaned up, but [I am more skeptical](qoto.org/@antares/110986868805) that it will happen in the kind of timeline we need it to or at the price point that is reasonable.

@Hypx Hi Friend,

Nice to see you back in the comments. I thought you might show up.

I hope you noticed that while Mr. Liebreich is not supportive of Hydrogen for road transportation, He does think that it will be a useful form of seasonal energy storage, of which I have been skeptical. The aviation angle is also one I'd not considered.

“If you're an oil and gas company, in a way, talking about hydrogen is kind of a two-way bet because if it works, then you're embedded in the hydrogen industry — but if it doesn't work, you've delayed the transition to the thing you don't make, which is electricity,” he tells Recharge. “So why wouldn't you promote hydrogen for inappropriate use? @onan Original sin should read: You are born corrupt and your level of corruption cannot be impacted in any significant way during your lifetime.

History doesn't repeat, but it rhymes.

Thinking about and at war, it rhymes with the United States wars with American Indian Nations during the 19th century.

What we witnessed last week was by Hamas was the parallel of Custer's last stand. Israel has a claim to their land that fits well with the nationalist religious zeal that was Manifest Destiny.

I suspect that over the next generation Palestinians will like American Indian be pushed into ever smaller and poorer reservations with little true autonomy, and that in 4 generations good well meaning Israelis will be starting their lectures Wil an acknowledgement that the land the are on once belong to someone else and was taken by force, but not really ready to go beyond those words.
