Me: There's a concern that, with so many #MachineLearning PhDs being snapped up by industry, there won't anyone to train the next generation of researchers.
Colleague: I guess they'll just have to use .... unsupervised learning.
Did some stress testing of a design, and found a situation where a dead short of an output could exceed the rated power of a resistor.
After a few minor changes, that vulnerability no longer exists.
Always design your systems so that people can connect inputs to inputs, outputs to outputs, outputs to ground, and outputs to power.
It's just so much more friendly that way.
@trinsec I'm using the default web template. At the bottom of the left column is a blue box with version info it an animated gif in the background whose eyes and mouth bounce. The movement was giving my dyslexia fits.
This is another part of the #Soul #Nebula I imaged earlier this year, specifically #IC1848 8 hours H-alpha, 8 hours [OIII] and 8 hours [SII] , click to see the full image #astrophotography #astronomy #space
There are about a dozen really bad actors, once you block those servers you cover the bulk of the content. Works well. The main reason we **dont** block servers was at the LGBTQ's communities request. At the time Milo was on Gab and they used accounts here to follow him so they could see when he doxxed someone and use it to warnt he community (as was the norm at the time and a big deal). In fact its why we added the subscribe feature, specifically so they could follow people without being identifiable as doing so.
Its one reason we dont block, its like putting blocks in a web browser, it hurts the victims too.
Ok Timeline. The #twittermigration thing is now over, okay? Can we go back to actual content?

Got my new 4145B Semiconductor Parameter Analyzer up and running. It was a really pain finding triaxial cables that weren't more expensive than the unit was.
It's really neat to be able to characterize diodes and transistors with this.
This is a language anti-pattern that needs to be called out and dissuaded:
* An important social or scientific concept with a precise meaning that would take a journal article to explain gets a vernacular short hand because social media has character limits.
* The vernacular term gets reinterpreted by its opponents to be as broad and general as possible completely ignoring the fact that it is simply a linguistic tag for a very precise phenomena.
* Someone with "expertise" in the field than makes a viral post about how absurd the broadened term is completely ignoring the original precise meaning.
Something that I liked about Twitter was the lack of hierarchy. Hierarchy and elitism are some of the worst aspects of #academia, and social networks provide us with a strategy to break the cycle of privilege that perpetuates inequity. I’m looking forward to seeing how we can do the same on here! #Inclusivity #TwitterMigration
Watching the temperature hold at exactly 100 C as all the water from last weeks rainstorm evaporates. #science
This is the beauty of #FOSS. If you disagree you can fork the code and fix it.
"How do I find my friends" is perhaps inaccurate. What I want to know is how do I find all the interesting and popular accounts that I have a parasocial relationship with.
I'm sure John Scalzi doesn't know me from Adam, but I enjoy his tweets. How do I find people like John Scalzi, Ken White or Kai Rysdal who have accounts somewhere in the Fediverse. (No not those three in particular. I know none of them are on here, but people like them who are.)
Place your bets on Tuesday's #FalconHeavy launch. Success is defined as payload reaching intended orbit.
@derickflorian Yes, one of two on that topic, and the one supported by the national sports betting corporations.
@derickflorian Third parties would benefit more from using any other system than first past the post voting (I'm a single transferable vote person myself, but I know that is a pretty complex system both to implement and for voters to understand.)
It is in fact not political speech I want to tax, but in means of amplifying that speech (buying TV time, printing mailers, paying phone bank callers.) Local candidates who go to public spaces and talk to voters should be able to do so without impediment, but when every second ad is for #prop27, yeah I want some social benefit from that mess.

As we come up to the #midterms #elections in the US, I have a thought: We cannot stop the wave of political advertising, but could we tax it heavily? Maybe use the revenue to even out election funding, or have a nice pot of general fund money waiting for the winners. #Politics
