@nomdeb @tralinda@mastodon.social @hiitslissy @Plaer1 @Dahlialith Yes, and also find a way to pay the people creating content. we need to pay a living wage to something like 5 or 6 people if we want consistent professional local news coverage.
@cvvhrn This is me with Fifi sitting on FIFI-LS, mounted on SOFIA, taken just before I left Palmdale for the last time on the day after my last mission. My beard was trimmed to fit under an N95 ar three time!
SOFIA Saturday: NASA 747-SP N747NA- Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy. The super rare 747-SP carries a 2.5 meter Cassegrain reflector IR telescope above atmospheric moisture to enhance readings. Sadly its mission is over and will be parked at Pima (see next post for inside shots) #NASA #SAOFIA #Astronomy #aviationphotography #planespotting #haveglass #aviation #AvGeek #spotter

My church is reading [*Changing the Conversation* by Anthony B. Robinson. (2008)][1] The first conversation is about the end of Christendom. I distinctly remember having this conversation with my Priest and Bishop during out pre-confirmation talk in 1990! Same words, same concerns, same conclusion, same actions.
I have thoughts: 1) How long will it take before this is no longer a novel idea? 2) Given the strong re-emergence of Christian Nationalism in the USA are we actually in a post-Christendom context, or are mainline protestant denominations just sad that they are no longer driving the conversation?
[Stupid variation on 1950's Christmas song stuck in my head]
Brain: You listened to this song all day every day this week you must *really* like it.
Me: I don't get to choose the music at work, and it Saturday now please stop.
Brain: Why would you work somewhere that you don't like the music?
Me: I like to eat.
Brain: **Donuts!**

@manfromthehand @duncan_lithgow @realcaseyrollins @stux This works right up to the point that the private establishment is the oppressor not the oppressed. Frequently, those who are oppressed need to make their oppressors uncomfortable in order address their oppression. Content moderation becomes a tool for silencing the oppressed because "they don't give a shit about our feelings."
the birdsite and me
@Dahlialith I don't think there is one bright line, but I said I would leave when President Biden's press secretary does. That will be my cue that there is no longer anything worth listening to there.

There are not a lot of ways to get breaking local news though. My local news paper is dying on the vine. Over 90% of its content is national or state news because they don't have reporters in town any more. Same with local TV stations -- sure if something explodes there will be news coverage, but local school board meetings, city council decisions, homelessness, crime that doesn't rise to the level of sensationalism; the only way I find these is from local citizen journalists, and they are still mainly on twitter.
Meeting Agenda:
Introductions 45 min
Team building 30 min
Individual project reports 90 minutes
(Please limit presentations to 15 min and 8 slides)
Discussion of Synergies 30 minutes
HR safe work place talk (MANDITORY)
- please come prepared for role playing exercise
Management 1-on-1s after meeting
@ve7fim I've learned not to get the extended warranty and to take things out of the box and plug them in while still at the registers at Best Buy.
Insurance is such a scam.
"You're protected*"
* Except you have to ship everything that was damaged to us, at your cost.
* And you only have ten days to do so.
* And first you have to pay to get an independent repair cost estimate for everything. Like who even does that nowadays?
* And if they do pay out, they will only pay what the going price is on eBay or Craigslist (!?)
* And the insurance is void if the power spike was longer than 1 ms.
@japierce I don't think we are going to agree about how virtual interactions should be valued in communities of faith, but I do want to emphasize the point that it is not the buildings but the people that I care about.
As to the word "valid " that has a lot of theological significance loaded on to it. I will leave it as "not ideal for people in most cases."
@andrewstroehlein Yes, but this is mastodon. Please whisper your descent quietly behind a CW so as not to trigger the people who just want a safe space to ignore it.
@japierce I will not try to convince you that a building is important, but I am convinced that being in the same physical space with other people is important not only for our spirit but for our psychological health. Gather under a tree or in a hospital room, but you will no convince be that pixels can replace people.
Off on a tangent
@freemo @derickflorian @toxomat @ceoln @PaulaToThePeople @SecondJon @shelenn I am so disappointed and frustrated that free speech that was such a core value of liberals and academics when I was in college c. 2000 has now become synonymous with hate and the alt right.
