Don't let yourself be demotivated by that. I am on this platform only for a few days but I already did enjoy a couple of vivid discussions with disagreeing in a very civilized and respectful way. This platform will be formed by the people who wan't to see it prosper, not those only using it to spread hate.

I was fascinated by octopusses before, but reading this book deepened this fascination even more.

Will check out your recommendation as well.

Other Minds: The Octopus and the Evolution of Intelligent Life, by Peter Godfrey-Smith

amazon.com/Other-Minds-Octopus (sorry for the Amazon-link, was the best I could come up with)

This is a book about , however it's written by professor of history and philosophy of science. Peter Godfrey-Smith sees the as a unique kind of , that has developed independly from other forms of intelligence. In doing so, depicts the octopus convincingly as one of the most remarkable creatures on earth.
Did you know that an octopus
- can squeeze its body through holes only insignificantly smaller than its eyeball?
- has "thinking arms", which can act partly autonomous?
- can chameleon-like adapt its skin colors to the background for hiding, even though not being able to actually see colors?

After reading this book, you realize the octopus might very well be a genuine alien being dropped into our oceans. I can't help myself but finding these guys fascinating! This book opens up a perspective to how weird and wonderful nature can be and what unknown worlds still await us.

I got a PineTime. 27 USD plus shipping. The SoC inside is basically a potato and runs at 64MHz. But even though the PineTime is really really low-spec, the end result is much better than my WearOS watch, which currently sells for 200 USD. This is embarrassing for Google

I bet you’ve heard of Galileo & Hubble, but what about Henrietta Swan Leavitt?

Leavitt changed astronomy. She figured out new ways to measure a star’s distance from Earth & her work helped determine the universe is expanding.

Her boss, Edward Pickering, published her findings UNDER HIS NAME. Later, Shapley used her findings to determine distances around the Milky Way w/o credit.

Leavitt’s work is still used today. So next time you hear about famous men in #science share her remarkable story.

I've been trying to research an answer for this question for some time...

Does anyone out there in Masdo-Land know what the maximum time that physicists have been able to maintain an entangled pair of particles before decoherence?

I'm not so sure about the necessity of a council or such. Even a council is a central instance at least on an organizational level.
To my understanding a network needs a common protocol as a foundation, from there on it should be able to function without a controlling instance. A "council" might only be necessary to further develop the underlying standard, but this is not the same as centrally controlling everyday operation. There are a couple of examples like email or matrix that show it works.
To me, the whole central steering of wo is to block and who not is pretty mastodon-specific and seems "Twitter-driven", as people try to find solutions to problems that did drive them away from Twitter. I trust this will fade out over time.

@gwr
True. Fortunately this authority does not apply to technical aspects of . And since this "authority" is purely a ideological one, it seems necessary to establish other authorities of equal trustworthiness.
