@derickflorian , you need to find 2 sheep, and feed them wheat. They breed, and then you make shears to get wool.
@admitsWrongIfProven ok, thank you, that makes sense! The only problem is my lack of knowledge so I appreciate you explaining the high level of it. I will dig into it and that sounds like the best option from an overall cost standpoint.
My first attempt at minecraft resulted in death. For what it’s worth my second living person is at level 5.
The crafting is fun and immense so far. I am very grateful for tons of torches keeping mobs from spawning near my house. 🙏
I just need to find more sheep! Don’t have enough wool to make a bed after multiple days.:/
@jellycrystals Wow, I have so much to learn. I did built a spruce boat but might build a spruce boat with a chest too. I will have to watch some vids on fishing to see how it works!
@admitsWrongIfProven I just don’t trust myself I guess. Would that involve having a separate router to wall off my network? And doing stuff like fail2ban and disabling login via password to the pi?
I think you can actually host the classic java version or the new “bedrock” edition.
My third thought was there are open source voxel games that I could try and potentially host. Minetest comes up over and over but I really liked Terasology the most from this list: https://opensource.com/alternatives/minecraft
5-7 books to something something about me? Good Lord. Um...
Okay, "A Wrinkle in Time", that's like a free space.
Thaddeus Golas, "A Lazy Man's Guide To Enlightenment".
Robinson, "A Short, Sharp Shock".
Me, "All Reality" (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1KH-ZR3A8va_QVaVVP5EWb3SIUUJF2o0g65hOV3pVspA/)
Ram Dass, "Be Here Now"
I don't know! Maybe Morick (ed) "Challenges to Empiricism".
Ooh how about Abbott's "Flatland"?
"Principia Discordia" of course.
Darn, that's eight already, and I haven't listed "The Wind in the Willows" yet, which should probably have been first.
And lots more!!
I had a really great time playing ~5 min of Minecraft last night. I am definitely going to start a new game tonight.
My biggest challenge was building a roof on my hideout. I ran out of time so I walled myself into a cave I dug for the night. If I’m being honest I also wasted time on frivolous things like picking berries and hunting foxes. This tells me Minecraft is realistic. Without society and many support systems I would probably die because it’s winter and i have a bunch of delicious berries but no shelter or warmth.:)
I want to play with my siblings an RPi LAN setup won’t do. I tried a “Free” private server but the catch is you have to renew it every few days. It looks like hosting is cheap and I could get a a 10 player server for around $30 USD per year. There are also free public servers but I’m not sure if they are good for new players.
@FailForward @ypc_bunsen @freemo I did consider moving or having an alt but I’m not sure I really want to interact people who already blocked me transitively by blocking QOTO. All because they didn’t like the personality of an admin or one outreach attempt(in the most recent round of blocking).
I am missing out on other’s voices that aren’t involved in the blocking but at the same time for me the decision is to stay. I get that some people when they say free speech mean hate speech, and I have blocked those people. But I also don’t agree with people on the other side of the spectrum that block entire swathes of people for the reason they don’t like an opinion or a style of communicating.
Finally getting around to quartoifying my website and making a custom bootstrap theme and it's a delight so far! #QuartoPub #rstats
Saying something like, "Mastodon is open source. Don't like the functionality? Get to work." is not only useless 'advice' but actually pushes people away from open source and the tool you are telling them to fix.
Why are you combative that someone doesnt have time, energy, expertise or actually enough care to fix it themselves? Imagine telling that to a reporter, doctor, lawyer, or geologist?
In 1938, kindergarten teacher Helen Hulick wore slacks to court to testify as a witness in Los Angeles, CA. Judge Arthur Guerin was appalled & rescheduled the case, instructing her to “return in a dress.”
The next day, Hulick showed up in slacks again, declaring, “I will stand on my rights…I like slacks. They’re comfortable.”
She was sent to jail. https://web.archive.org/web/20210315143406/https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2019-11-15/from-the-archives-wear-slacks-to-court-and-go-to-jail
"Crafting Interpreters" is a popular book by Robert Nystrom:
http://craftinginterpreters.com
It's less known Nystrom wrote a blog series explaining in great detail how he created the book. In the posts he covered his writing routine, book design, production toolchain, self-publishing process, promotion, and the setbacks and tragedies that challenged the work on the book. Here's the series:
So, don't tell anybody, but we're going to announce Palm Pilot emulation in the browser at Internet Archive in the next week or so. I've still got to get descriptions in for the hundreds of apps that are uploaded, and add a few more classics. But if you want to help with that, or just let me know how it's going, ping me here.
But don't tell anybody! It's a secret!
Are you NEW here at SDF?
WELCOME! And did you know SDF has a radio station? It's called aNONradio and you can listen here:
Click me: https://anonradio.net/
When should you listen? 19:30 UTC!
19:30 UTC is the start time for Dubious Goals Committee!
That's 2:30pmET, 1:30pmCT, 12:30pmMT, 11:30amPT in North America. For everyone else, UTC is pretty much GMT, so now you have to do a math problem. Sorry 'bout that.

I like drinking tea.
@_litui_ really like the track!
@itsOasus Do you think they can change/are changing? It seems like they have had a bad track record based on statements made by officials of the organization and actions:
- https://www.pinknews.co.uk/2019/11/19/the-salvation-army-claimed-not-anti-lgbt-anymore/
They at least have statements on their website saying they are caring for lgbtq people equally now.
The most recent incident I saw was in 2017/2018 so it’s probably too early to tell unless there are more recent ones I don’t know about.
Thanks for your post, I won't donate to them until they can demonstrate they can treat lgbtq people with respect and dignity.
Just broke into software development. Currently struggling to grasp C!
