Nice that you recognize the need to reduce the exposure.

You might be able to cut it down without smashing the phone even. Put it away, and just use a computer when at home, for example.

For me, the phone is a minor problem - I use one mostly when I am travelling abroad.

Normally it would be on one of the computers in the house, laptops so it's easy to relax and read for hours.

Kind of nice that I found Mastodon and am here reading and posting, making some contact, helping people out, instead of reading news for hours analyzing it and feeling bad from so many bad things happening in different places.

There are good ways to use the Net, and many bad ways. Porn, flame wars, arguing with the political opposition, all negative energies that don't help us much.

Making time for longer reads, online or out, is important.

I have been spending so much time here that my visits to The Guardian, the NY Times, The Atlantic have been infrequent daily.

Yo me quedé a Playa Turquesa, en Holguin, que no es leja de Playa Esmeralda.

Cuba me recuerda mucho el Brasil - la geografia, el clima, la naturaleza, el pueblo gentil. Solo una lingua y sistema politico diferente, pero me gusta visitar.

Sinto pero nunca visité allá - es un vuelo muy longo del Sur, onde yo vivia, hasta el Amazonas. Me gustaria, por cierto, veerlo.

Hasta a las famosas playas del Nordeste de Brasil - Salvador, Recife, Fortaleza, yo nunca me fué.

Conosci personas a Protugal que habian estado allá en vacaciones, e yo, nunca. 😛

Han passado muchos años desde que visité Cuba, que me gusta mucho. Para nosotros ahí en Canadá es un destino genial para vacaciones, el sol, las playas, y las chicas... Magnifico, todo!! 😜

Ahora que los americanos pueden ir allá también, los precios han cambiado, no son tan bajos como en el pasado.

Solo los Europeos y Canadianos que tenian negocios con Cuba, o ian alla en vacaciones.

Lo mismo ocorre con otras nacionalidades. You soy originalmente de Brasil, y encontro muchos extranjeros que hán visitado muchos sitios que yo nunca fué. El país es imenso también, lo que hace mas dificil viajar por alla.

That is a good thing, to force yourself to use other methods and research.

The article is really important too in explaining how our attention spans are getting impacted, shortened, by the bombardment of short pieces of info from social media feed-lines, TV watching with these stupid scrolling marquees on the bottom.

It's harder to sit or lay down and read a book for hours.

I found the article very comforting in that sense - I am not the only one feeling this. Have thousands of books, many unread, and find less and less like laying in bed or sofa and reading for hours, with big enjoyment, like I used to.
