@esperera_98 Well done. The message will go thru and you can expect a response, probably later or tomorrow morning, It's past midnight in Italy right now.

@Ca_Gi

@esperera_98

Well, I understand. 😛 Added the link for completion only, since Ca posted his request there.

Ah, si, visité una vez, por una semana. Bien interessante la ciudad. Las playas no son tan bellas como las de la cuesta Norte, cerca los Cayos y Holguin, pero hay much buena Musica y Historia a Santiago.

@adbenitez @Massick

@esperera_98

Oh, yes, I think you are right, there's lots of tweets in italian on his feed.

@Ca_Gi

@esperera_98

Santiago - de Chile o de Compostela, en Galicia?

Yo, he visitado, la segunda.

@adbenitez @Massick

@esperera_98 @Ca_Gi

Oops, el no habla Castellano, CL, o no estaria a pedir ayuda, no? 🇪🇸

Our friend is English speaking I believe, and wouldn't ask for translation help for Spanish if he spoke it. 🇬🇧

@esperera_98
That's no problem, there are many native French speakers, and they can do a nice job. Like you can do a nicer job for the Spanish version than me, who never had proper in school course in the language.

Read the page, and send Ca_Gi a DM asap, so they can assign the Spanish job to you.

@Ca_Gi

@esperera_98

The first step would be to let the client knows you can do the job, for Spanish. We included his fediverse here in this thread, so he will be notified.

But you can also send a driect message to him/her and offer the help. His/her request was made on Twitter a couple of hours ago only.

They will be glad to receive a help offer.

Makes sense? I still haven't read the guide, but that can also be done after sending a message to them, and waiting for a reply.

If your French is strong enough to handle the translation, they are looking for someone in that language as well.

Gracias, amiga! 🇨🇺
@Ca_Gi

@jax Here's an actual example of the ping test results. I opened a command line, and used ping to try to contact a system here in North America, where I am, www.gm.com.

And next one farther away, in Japan -- www.yahoo.jp

See the difference in the time to receive a test packet back (or ping back)? 😉

Lower ping latency for gm.com. Mom knew her stuff. 😛

@jax well, ping latency is how long it takes for a small test packet to travel from here, to there, and back.

Sort of like a sonar ping. The longer, the worse our connection is, there's delays along the way.

A closer by system will have lower ping times. Farther away, longer ones, as a general rule.

@esperera_98 They are looking for people to help translate a new Guide to Mastodon they are creating. Need Spanish and French translation.

If you have the time and want to do it, the guide is here: rame.altervista.org/mastostart

The OP on twitter asking for help was this fellow:

@Ca_Gi

If you are too busy, I can try to help them instead, or maybe we can share and compare our work. TY!! 😄

@chikara

Thank you forthe post, Chikara. These are wondeful works indeed. Beautiful illustrations.

You may not know that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Pomological Watercolor Collection is a digitized archive of 7.5K botanical illustrations. -- usdawatercolors.nal.usda.gov/p

And there's a Fediverse bot which posts one of these images every three hours. -- see fruit toots
@pomological

The high quality of this scientific illustration is noteworthy. You can see for yourself below.

The skill of the artist who painted a cross-section of a strawberry caught my eye -- maybe you'll be interested, too.

The fine detail in the thorns on the stem of the watercolor of a raspberry vine caused me to take a second look -- and only then did I notice the fine hairs on the raspberry leaves.

There are 3.8K watercolors of apples. Like me, maybe you're not really interested in the subject of apple varieties; but maybe there's another good reason to take advantage of this bot option.

HYPOTHESIS: Can I train my eyes to be more observant by simply looking at thousands of watercolors of apple skins?

THEORY: Each USDA artist used only skill and color to fool the eye into perceiving a curved surface instead of a flat plane. What would happen if I try in a casual way to figure out how this happens? Without really working at it, I'd guess that I'll probably get better at "seeing" subtle color variations in the apple skins. And over time, maybe this repeated practice will produce consequences in what I'm able to observe in the real world.

Just a thought. What do you think?
