Although I mostly sit and listen, very rarefied talks, a lot of programmers, developers there. The sys admin is Nolan, the author of Pinafore, which is wonderful software.

I imported the Following list from here to there and other places I have low profile accounts (a couple more, for special interests, different language posts). And an observant user on my list could have noticed the Follow request coming from this new account on a different instance they did not visit before.
HT is quite nice and specialized, there's people working in admin and network security, a nice place for me to learn new things.
@Sphinx
LOL, I am bad at operational Security it seems. 😄
It's HT, Hackers.town, QC.
@moonshine@freespeechextremist.com
@Sphinx A lot of posts there, but unfortunately a lot of them are of the tweet, short, cryptic one liners.
Not a fan. But there's a good crowd and some nice knowledge there.
@Sphinx LOL, good work. 😜
@nolan It does not have this problem with another instance I also use it, and supports 10,000 chars. They are running Glitch-soc there, which seems to communicate the limit to Pinafore fine.
Man, I love Pinafore! What a nice and FAST client...
If I could only get it to allow me more than 500 characters... Pity it right now shows 356 chars left.
when this account at Qoto allows up to 65,000 characters. I had tried it weeks ago, it became my fave with it's speed and sleek interface.
But I am verbose, and neeeed the extra characters.
@nolan , any suggestions? Sorry to bother you.
@alex_ You are welcome! : :blobsmilehappyeyes:
Here's a screen shot. If you have their email, the VPN can come in a bundle for a little more. Check when you renew comes due.
@alex_ I just recently discovered them, after an user at another instance posted a screenshot.
VERY impressed, specially since they DO offer a nice free option if people don't want to or can't afford to pay.
Testing it is easy, signup with an email, their client for Windows is only a 11 MB binary, installs without any problems and runs well.
Swiss precision and discretion at work, they are based there.
For a week I used the Premium service, a free one week trial, and now I am on the free tier.
This offers servers in 3 countries: Japan, USA and Netherlands. I have bench marked using both US and NL servers, and they get about 50% of my home connection rated speed.
The Iceland premium server I had selected previously and used for a week had lower usage and got to a higher percentage of my connection's maximum speed.
Really recommend, can be used on mobile or desktop/laptops.

@pschwede Yey!! 😜

How cool is an op sys with a * Cat * command? 😺

@alex_ That's cool. Used Open VPN in the past, and while it worked, it too a while to connect.
Now using ProtonVPN, and still amazed on how fast it connects on start up or returning from sleep mode. Awesomeness.
@Hedieh Oh, that's hard indeed. Have you seen a doctor about it?
Any treatment you are getting?
@iankenway As annoying as another power hungry Conservative leader is, this guy has his moments, lol.
Waiting to see what UK does about this election.
@Hedieh post a picture? Talk about it? if you like, of course. 😄
@khird My idea was to be able to re-use an image that I have previously saved into the local instance in another toot.
After entering the image into a new toot, instead of adding a new copy, adding it to the users Media folder, it could point to the pre-existing copy and send the toot on.
I do not know how other instances handle the images in posts, but I think they request and keep a local copy, for local users seeing the toot.
the images get a long hashed name, and if the same image exactly was used, it might be in their local cache and save a new transfer and storage.
