@pigeonkami Hello and welcome!

I think you don't have to worry, as you are curious and the person you want to read is posting publicly and referring to it, not a secret.

There's lots of good things here in the Fediverse, which is more than Mastodon -- there's video, music, file hosting, blog services, all kinds of nice projects to get involved in and to explore.

Hope you enjoy it here, pegeonkami. Welcome.

@snow

Toronto, Canada has some excellent architecture. This is a nice example, although the Winter bleak landscapes are not a favourite for me.

High on my loved list are TD Towers, by L. Mies van der Rowe. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toronto-

Buffalo, NY, not far away also has lovely ones.

@snow A nice image for the thread?

And a "Happy Birthday HAL!" article that was published by Wired in 1997 -- HAL's birthdate in the novel as written by A.C. Clarke : web.archive.org/web/2011102601

people might like this one too.

@snow I like this idea, although it's hard to even speculate on what hardware it would use. Things change so quickly. But interesting nonetheless.

And as I search for more info, I came across the wonderful Wikipedia page for HAL9000 - a great read.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HAL_9000

Also, this still unvisited link, might be useful : movies.stackexchange.com/quest

is still in shaky grounds. as in previous decades has not resumed, and likely won't return. Low and Zero interest rates hurt savers and stimulate irresponsible borrowing, Real Estate bubbles.

Too important and not being discussed.

Is this 1929 in redux? Bizarre for a US President to be cheering on a bubble like this twitter.com/Schuldensuehner/st

@snow This must be a nice plate. I love the big Udon noodles myself too.

And @snow post concerning the possible hardware specs of HAL9000, the all seeing and controlling AI and master computer on board the "2001, A Sapce Odissey" spaceship led me to look for any possible info.

Found some interesting posts, including Cory Doctorow's post marking the passing of the Canadian actor whose voice was selected and used in the film.

boingboing.net/2018/11/12/hal-

A really marcant performance. Some qualified it as the best participation on a film, by someone simply voicing over, never appearing.

RIP, Douglas Rain (1918 - 2019)

Stanley Kubrick, the genial film's director, posted about his passing too. twitter.com/StanleyKubrick/sta

Quite interesting. Maps are wonderful.

@snow Yes, that is very nice, elegant and not eye straining. What I would like to use and see in more places.

A dark theme, as it's not Full Black (which can be hard) and not the sea wash of white we see in so many places.

@snow
I don't have TV service either,. and there's not much I miss. Documentaries, yes, and many good BBC programmes, but we can find them on demand, obtain local copies for safekeeping and watching at will.

Too much junk on TV indeed.

@mngrif

@freemo

Aesthetically, I find the Dark Theme profiles much nicer and more pleasant, less eye straining than the light colour one. Maybe consider making a change on the default here at Qoto? Surprising (and in a nice way) by crackurbones mentioning M.S. already defaults to dark theme.

@snow

@snow

I took a look at your profile as seen by Pinafore client, while using the M.S. instance, and it showed all the info, I think.

@crackurbones

@snow It is a little large, but not so bad -- as it encoded to a jpeg. Normally it seems to use a .PNG format to images dropped into the Toot Editor via copy/paste.

I download yours and recompressed with Riot plugin, 80% quality factor, and came to 239 KB.

I normally will process an image locally before using it on Mastodon, unless it's a quick screenshot or other one time use one (not to be seen by many people possibly).

@snow We as users can certainlu voice our opinions. The culture there in Japan is certainly different, there are things alloweed there that would be jail bait in a western country.

One of the main reasons instances were concerned about some of the Asian instances - and many blocked them wholesale, just to avoid having copies of those media files in their own servers (as normally, copies of images end up cached locally in many places because someone in that instance is following a remote user).

There is a good article I found the other day that you might enjoy reading - it explains some of this and the admins reactions to it, the culture in Japan.

@snow Wonderful! Look forward to it, and I will help spread the word, boosting it.

Thanks, Snow!

and adding to my To Read Tabs.
