We think alike it seems and I think that comes from one's past experiences -- we might have gotten used to some form of content presentation, and now have different possibilities, not always better.

Forums are the best tool for organized, searchable content from my many years past experience. As a user, then contributor, then Staff member in various sites. Still love it.

Mastodon leading people came from Twitter, and that shows in many ways - they aspire for a non-corporate version.

I despise one liner "posts". There are good instances, where I am a member, as a well travelled amateur Fediverse Journalist.

I can think of various places I am a member of, and value for their uniqueness - but wouldn't be a choice for my main account with typical one liners being the usual form there.

I visit, look around, say hello. And depart, on to other shores.

This topic is becoming rich and I already see potential for substantial Web Magazine posts, the content form I like best at the moment; a name I apply to rich Blogging, content wise, sans marketing BS.

Ah -- nd that suggestion just clicked an idea here. That it Could stay near the top of the profile, where it is now - but with a Expand Fold button.

That would display it for those interested. Doable, not biggie I would imagine.

@freemo Those are excatly my views.

From trying to show him my proposal for a better AWI, using more of our wide screen displays.

His reaction, dismissive, was a surprise that I didn't like the Thin columns, ADHD inducing 4 panel, multi Feed that he designed AWI for.

And this proposal wasn't a one liner comment in mastodon, but a fully argued and illustrated new topic -- right at his instance.

Glad to see we share this vision! The Future Beckons.

For a little while I found that using CWs was really neat into wrapping long posts, and keeing then short and neat in the Federated feeds.

BUT - there's always a but, soon enough also I realized how people were not seeing these posts as much -- the IMAGE was hidden, as part of the CW logic.

Uhm -- maybe we could have a new idea; Collapse the Text, always using a one line "Topic Title" as the New_CW description. BUT keeping the image in display.

A well chosen image can not only add visual value and attraction to the post, but catch a passing by reader, and convince them to expose that folded text content.

Remind that most all people who will see out posts are NOT in our local instances. Thye will not see them in a placidly moving timeline, oh, here's another post by Joey.

Nope, they look at them in the Home feeds (our Followers) or even Worse, in the Niagara_Falls of content that is the Federated Timeline.

In that crowded place, hooking a Reader is no easy feat.

Local timelines are much easier to absorb, but there way more readers out there. Hooking them, we need.

I should find the time and commit to one week of seriuos Friendica usage -- I have an account on one instance, but never got around to giving it the analytical thought treatment.

It does have impressive features, and federates well. Gotta do it. Soon, possibly (says someone who's already stretched, thin, lol).

Really glad that you share this vision. Mastodon is too controlled and unwilling to accept new ideas even when they are implemented and clearly show value. Time to support new thinking.

What I see the future for Fediverse being, barring some resistance from certain corners.

This post COULD be done at this minute, exactly like that. And federated no problems. GlitchSoc or Pleroma can.

If I ever decide to run an instance, other than my personal Write.freely (private, non federated) -- it will NOT be a mastodon or a variant. GlitchSocial is better. But Pleroma, that's State of the Art for me.

Have three Dell Powerservers on hand too. But I just wouldn't want to commit to hosting a big public instance and keeping it for long run, like you do here (and we all are thankful). Those Dells could be useful someday, a local emergency library is possibility; we can't take the Internet as a permanent fixture, forever, it might not happen.

@Ox I can understand that, and sorry for the extra scrolling -- if you visit mine, it's a far trip down vertically, as I love those posts - and they ARE feature full.

I am not a Twitter ex-user, but a Forums person, and miss the goodness it can offer.

This extra Pinned allowance could be implemented by an instance, I imagine it's a config option somewhere.

Unless Eugen did the same as the "Max_Toot_Length = 500" , which is deliberately hard coded in various source code files. And discourages people from allowing greater post character count limits. [sucks huge, to be polite]

@freemo can probably hack in the source and allow More Pinned Posts here ar Qoto. Reason for my post, but it could be a nice one for others, no? 😛
