It's part of the richness of fedi that it's common and normal for more adventurous people to come and go, it's accepted. Good people are remembered, perhaps we meet again?
Next Spring, in Córdoba, or Sevilla, or Porto? All cities I visited, and love.
Many others too, Lisboa has my heart in quick beat, I am so happy the moment I arrive there.
Saudades de Portugal. Minha terra ancestral.
Take your time as you follow my narrative, it's pretty intense and the Blog is an ideal way to follow it - as it's not time sensitive as live conversations are. The pages will still be there, next time, and can be responded to, linked to, I do that myself as well.
My wondering ways won't stop at FAB, as there is so much more to see and love, report on so people get notice they exist. Marrakesh, Istanbul, Budapest, so many places to visit, why not?
>> Hence what you do! This is so important!
Thank you -- your perception never ceases to amaze me. Indeed.
The Local feeds can make or break an instance. Qoto's was broken, very recently, and I nearly dispaired.
It is hard to affect change, one single user no matter how active can't do it alone.
I had some encouragement from the quality posts and support that @Phaedrus gave me -- he knows what I am talking about, as he was the first person to write about
"Make Qoto Great Again" -- and we did, managed to turn the ponderous ship, weeded out some obnoxious accounts, created a small lock at the front door (the new user questions, which surprisingly few respond to; all blank forms are rejected outright , of course.)
This, I am happy to acknowledge, was my idea and suggestion, peddled to the staff and accepted; we all are happy with the reduced intake and the amazing rise in quality of our local feed.
This depends on the contributions of our users -- but sensing a friendly and rich environment, people will come closer and interaction will happen.
On that front things are working well.
Hopefully we make progress in the instance tech side, as I am dissatisfied greatly with mastodon, as I make abundantly clear (it's a campaign, of course).
If we improve, great. If not, m presence would fade somewhat, as I pursue my own aspirations and settle elsewhere as a main account.
The Home feeds, I haven't looked at in recent times, as you can imagine my time is taken with my own active presence. But they are good to discover cool people in other instances.
And I wish to participate on them once again.
My FAB account is now Pleroma HQ for me, and there's ziliion Notis there waiting for review and responses. I love it! 📩
>> Thanks to the *extensive* fedireports that you made Yann, I feel we can find our way.
And on that sense, I drop a mention to my most popular Blog page so far -- take a look when you have a chance, or bookmark it. There is a section in the second part where I review and describe some of the instances I had accounts at the time. mastodon.social is included.

#FediReporter again!
@design_RG @hansw @globcoco Yeah; for me, joining an instance with a good community, finding good locals to follow, and following people who engage with them has helped keep my timeline busy without a whole bunch of unwanted content like porn popping in my feeds. I very rarely use the Public Timelines anymore, save at night when I'm looking for new users who are across the globe.
>> Maybe he'll be back or not but what he gave you - as inspiring you to nourish your own creativity - is priceless and beautiful
Thank you, yes, really. Very much like our interactions, which are just wonderful too.
Certainly hope we could meet again.
@globcoco Completely understandable. I send you my love too, dear friend.
Could I ask for your permission? I think our two letters here would make a beautiful blog post by themselves.
Please consider, no pressure and it's ok if you prefer not to. Credit and linkback here would be included if published. Merci...
Much on a user's experience depends on the instance they live in. I am very happy I selected Qoto as my first one -- based on the small amount of info displayed about each in the joinmastodon.org pages.
Turned out well, and I am still here, active and putting time, effort and love into this. But I have also kept an open eye, curiosity and have been exploring, scouting on the vastness of fedi.
There's more, lots more, and I enjoy the discovery as much as going for long walks in an European city for the first time.
No maps is my usual approach, serendipity is lovely. I end up tired but so satisfied with the experiences I find.
Mastodon.social is the Twitter of mastoworld.
If I had joined there as my first instance, I wouldn't have stayed for 3 days even, I imagine.
I do have an account there, and there's a purpose for it -- but it's minimal in the day to day operations for me.
#FediReporter on the beat, #rgxJournal logged.
Yes, in considering online communities, the platform being used is important and can affect things tremendously, but the people themselves, the interactions, it is the most important part.
Finding a good group, which we feel identified with, and being accepted is so rewarding.
The cool kids are not in mastodon anymore.
Merci, mon amie,
I was touched right from the beginning of reading your post above. A letter to a friend, is what it is, and I love writing letters. Long and rich, they are great vehicles for expression.
You are so sensitive, it's wonderful -- the Title is indeed a powerful one, and it came to me as I wrote the whole piece. Right here, right in the Toot editor, not the most comfortable place.
Unlike my beloved full Black screen, crisp white text on foreground that is the Write.freely composing screen. They got it so right, it's amazing.
The thoughts on that piece, written free form, unedited, here as a response, they flowed as well. I knew as I wrote that this was a nice one, and that it would become a Blog page.
The most important and beloved part of my work, these Web Magazines of mine. For writing, for idea development and promotion, for technical and educational purposes.
And why not, to open my heart and give friends a peek.
I am happy to read your response, and sincerely thank you for it. I know it's not an easy task, as it requires focused effort and a desire to communicate in writing what is sensed emotionally, we need to find the words to explain it. But it was greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Back to yesterday's post, we both agree the title evokes powerful images.
The body of the text below was ready, as mentioned.
But the introductory part which was needed for context setting, that I am also quite happy with -- as it started slowly and soon had a heart and value on its own right.
I did visit and read you About Me page at write.as last night, nice work on it, Coralie! And found some more links (with more advanced MarkDown teachings) which I could use too.
Merci,
Y.
@globcoco @hansw LOL, thank you!
I really had fun there, a great crowd, friendly, intelligent, sensitive. We had fast chat, the pleroma systems seem to encourage that -- when you come to mastodon it really feels. Ponderous. Slooooow....
And I saw so many people with the "banned for [insert reason here]" that I thought it was a neat idea, and joined.
Later used it here as well.
You don't need to use hashtags in all posts, they are useful when applied lightly and with care.
I use a couple, as I mentioned -- and for me, nomad on the lanes of the Fediverse, they allow me to find posts no matter where. That is so very cool.
I absolutely despise the idiots (typical at instagram) that put hash tags in every word in a post; that is not only ugly, but a wasteful use of computing resources.
The idea is that hash tags will be indexed -- which requires processing time and storage. If we polute the database with noobie, senseless tags like instastooges do, it only slows down ANY searches using hash tags. Nice job, noobs. NOT.
Karl disappeared back in December, and I have missed him much, He posted a couple of toots sometime later, but that was it.
We had some great conversations -- like with you, they brought back memories and allowed me to wax poetic, which we both enjoyed. Inspirational, pleasurable. Fireside chats.
But we have to accept life's transitional nature, and ejoy the moment, while still honouring the people we remember with fondness.
You are missed, dear friend. Be well, wherever the road takes you, @Full_marx .
Update :
I have just finished posting a new Suggestion issue at Glitch-Social's Github.
...which summarizes the findings I described in a Forum post, and requests consideration of the idea of adding these enhancements into the Glitch-Social code base.
Forum post : https://discourse.qoto.org/t/mastodon-screen-use-in-wide-screen-displays-a-search-for-better-results/280
If that was done, and the source for Eskuero's Collapsed Mastodon is available for review and adoption, all users could benefit, without the need of using an add-on, and better compatibility with future releases as changes are made.
The Suggestion is on this page. https://github.com/glitch-soc/mastodon/issues/1359
@hansw I have planted a veggie garden here at home this year; have done it in the past, but not when I am on extensive travel, as it requires care.
Went looking for little plants and the garden centers are pretty much bare -- one lady at one told me they had a lot of people who never did this before, now coming to get plants for food growing.
Resulting in unexpected shortage. Still haven't found the swiss chard I wanted. Other plants are in the ground, weather has been good this week.
I just did a test search, after being so surprised when someone pulled a whole thread out of thin air -- with the words "family tree" only.
OMG -- Full text search? on mastodon that is so freeking rare.
On Pleroma she pulled it off easy.
On a smaller instance, ok. On FAB, where my new account is, the same search got results as far back as 3 weeks.
Amizingly, it showed one of Hans's posts, done here on qoto, seen and indexed, retrieved on FAB easily.
