@design_RG 👍🏾 which is why I might just make this account my main.

@realcaseyrollins Our instance does not Block them.

I do, on my personal account, for my own reasons. Any of your posts should show in feeds everywhere.

If you are there, search for your @ username here and see what can be seen under the user profile.

@pschwede That sounds like a nice new project. Evaluating existing solutions and contributing a new, better one is cool.

@realcaseyrollins That is a nice development. I am glad for you, couldn't imagine being active in a place with the reputation they have there.

Have seen posts in front pages of some of their peripheral instances and wasn't pleased.

If you decide to make Qoto home, we will be glad. Also glad if you find an alternative good place elsewhere, where you can enjoy the fediverse without all the noise and drama.

@teknonomicon Lemme guess.. Doggie?

We cats have this aloof reputation, but really have a loving heart too.

@realcaseyrollins LOL... 😜

So, you got a special badge? j/k

I came along with the Indian Diaspora, it was a BBC article in early November that informed me this Mastodon thing existed.

A month and 2300 posts later, I am having great fun. 😺

@realcaseyrollins The rules here at QOTO are not as restrictive as I have seen in some instances.

One, in special, really raised my eybrows - I would not consider setting an account there and abiding by their terms.

Our own terms, though, allow for unpopular theme discussions, as long as people respect each other. It's explained in lots of detail in the About This Instance page, and our sys admin hails from USA, and values first amendment respect.

I have come across other instances that blocked me as a QOTO user from using some of their services (a very nice crossposter tool), the reason being Qoto was on their instance's blacklist as "unmoderated free speech".

I disagree with that perception, and used the crossposting tool with another account I have. Mentioned it to their sys admin by tagging him on our discussion of crossposting tools. He saw and favourited my DM about it, but no changes so far.

Back to your posts, as long as you don't disrespect other users, and stop tagging and writing to them if requested, I don't think we would have a problem here.

I have been nominated for the December Mod nomination thread, and look forward to being part of Staff here and helping people out, as I have been doing so far.

Communities are built by us, users participating and making them a nice place to visit and spend our time on. 😉

I think we have a pretty good one here, and we are not restricting entry, unlike some others I have looked at.

@realcaseyrollins

50 Thousand users, you probably won't get a reply. The About this Instance page is indeed empty, completely..

There's a contact listed in front page: sns@bunsan.social email or tag with @ here?

@TheAdmin

@freemo
Yes, this is a strange situation.

Waiting for replies to my DM as well, cc to you.

Back on topic, if you have good info that you could share with us...

...do the deed, post the post, and don't talk about reasons not to do it...

Easier with a real computer, not a mobile. I couldn't do a fraction of what I do here with the mobile sitting in the coffee table...

@dada @Asishdavid

I wouldn't say we are promoting Twitter accounts, as much as doing ocassional crossposts (from there to here, and from here to there if desired).

There IS content that is on twitter only atm, and is valuable. I would like to see a bot to bring me:

- Scientific American
- The Economist
- BBC News
- The Atlantic

...for example. Some of the above I have searched and not found a bot for. There is one for Economist, but I think it only posts a small fraction of their active TW stream.

I have seen a respected programmer and sys admin (Nolan, creator of Pinafor, and admin at Toot.cafe) mentioning how tired he was of seeing the "RT from..." tags in posts.

There IS a lot of junk there, which is completely fine staying there.

Won't deny there is some content we could enjoy here too. 😉

@freemo
I remember seeing a post you made, describing the two laptops you use mostly. A MBP and a Thinkpad, both running Linux, isn't it?

Do you still have the Mac OS as a dual boot? I like that it is a Unix variant, but Apple's eye candy doesn't appeal to me much.

Have used many variations of OS over the years, personally I like the Server versions of Windows, used solely as Workstations. Many of the server services disabled as not needed, I like Server 2003 particularly well.

Sad that they dropped support for it, as it was stable and efficient.

I do have an HP Workstation vintage system, dual Xeon processors, circa 2005 and now running HTPC duties, with Win XP (don't laugh, please).

It works, but the o.s. is now deprecated, and opening a browser window takes an agonizing amount of time, which it didn't in the past. 32 bit OS version, as it has only 2 GB of ram, parity enabled, not so common mem to find.

It could be a nice Winter project, to get it revamped into HTPC role but with a newer and lighter o.s.

I have accumulated a variety of vintage hardware over time, either mine or donated to me or my school from the local computer recycling program.

@binsrc

16 GB of ram must be nice if your use requires it. My laptop has 8 GB, which is the largest amount here in the house. Have a desktop with the same as well.

I have just managed to get over 7 GB in use with the laptop, due to the myriad tabs open for readign and research on the fediverse.

Waterfox running with 3 GB allocated was a sight. And it works fine too.

Fondly remember a freshly installed NT 4 Workstation, sitting idle at a desktop, no added software loaded (antivirus, etc). Took and saved a snapshot for posterity, it used 18 MB of RAM at that moment.

One of my favourite op systems.

429 Throttling, you say?

@freemo Ah, ok - thank you. I have a few tabs open on QOTO alone, saving posts that I have been reading and thinking about.

Will reduce that. TY.

429 Throttling, you say?

Was ist Das?

Mysterious artifacts keep showing at the bottom left corner of my mastodon window into QOTO. "429 Throttled" -- woot?

Any idea what this is or could be? How to remove it? They do seem to disappear, each staying on screen for a couple of seconds, then the bottom ones drop off, disappears.

The whole stack drops, and sometimes new ones appear, at the top.

Browser is Waterfox Current, which is Firefox Aurora channel, 68.0a2 atm.

Running in Windows 10, with Strict mode for tracking.

@mngrif *Parsing original statement and still puzzled*

🤔

Not sure I understand the nature of the situation, mn. Care to clarify, we can talk?

@ishuja WE all have them, Shuja, but they come in heavier at some people than others.

Sometimes talking about it can help. Feel free to post and one of the sensitive and empathetic people around will respond.

Cheers, friend. We are all on this together.

@freemo Haven't seen it, but all the latest productions have felt like they are milking the franchise way too heavily.

I stand aside and take my attention elsewhere.

@freemo @binsrc Very nice screenshot. I saw some posts this weekend by a userr in another forum, different versions of Linux.

One was ElementalOS, which I hadn't heard about.

I had a smile on seeing the systems specs and stats on the bottom corner. No wonder you like it, lol. 😜

My main system, where all my talking and imagery comes from, is a HP Elitebook 8560p, with an i7 processor like yours.

The smoothness of a quad core, 8 threads processor is wonderful. The machine takes my abusive 'one more tab' without complaints.

Running Windows 10, which I enjoy, have used it since before release, was part of Windows Insiders program.

I have vaious other machines around and should put a serious effort into using Linux in one of them. But being satisfied and productive in one platform reduces the urge to jump into new waters, at least for me, who would feel like a fish off the water.

Nice screenshot and glad you are happy on a desktop. I have one here closeby with a dual monitor setup, mostly off, would make a power user masto station. 😉
