@realcaseyrollins @angedestenebres Awesome -- glad to hear from a first hand experience like that, thanks Casey.
I would suggest Pinafore for anyone, it works in any op system, but the original request from someone here (which Ange responded to, linking to her guide) was for a Stand alone client; running without a browser.
I tried one that is listed as Desktop, standalone, seemed interesting but never got running for me in Windows.
Besides the awesome Pinafore ( https://pinafore.social or https://pina.todon.nl ), there's Halcyon (https://www.halcyon.social/ or https://halcy.todon.nl ).
Interesting! Out of the three, I have used two. I strongly recommend Whalebird for Linux, it works quite well and also offers desktop notifications, IIRC.
Hyperspace is an interesting case. As an anti-censorship nerd and free speech advocate, I don't think I can recommend it, as it bans @gab. However, the user experience is good, if a little unpolished and buggy (if your instance doesn't support trends, for example, and you click "What's Happening", the whole window will go blank and you can't do anything. It should be fine for users who don't use #Gab or interact with people there though.
@realcaseyrollins Yes, true -- I haven't used the function yet but remember seeing it being possible.
Something that crossed my mind -- a skilled programmer could develop a small bot to scan topics with the tag, and add all those, with a snippet for each (title, image, in a collapsed post forma) to a daily review.
I posted in the forum suggesting that a Guppe Group could work, but all replies would likely include the group tag, and end up showing in the group too. That's less ideal, since it would make for harder reading.
But I am sure someone with the tech skill could create a script to solve this; something like the one that lists the post of the day here at Qoto is a lot more complicated than this, I imagine.
Ange posted a nice review of possible Mastodon Clients under Linux, as usual a well written and illustrated piece.

@angedestenebres, well done.
@Vz01 Hey 😺
This is in French but you have 3 clients for mastodon : https://tugaleres.com/2019/03/23/clients-pc-pour-mastodon/
@ghostdancer Ah, the credit for creating Guppe Groups is not mine, I just made used the ssoftware and created the group for the Book Club, plus these two posts to show people how it works.
The project is William's, located at https://github.com/wmurphyrd/guppe
I haven't used GNUsocial, and it's nice if it supported the group creation and usage. It's one of the best thing in Facebook, the groups; some are quite informative and active.
@el_rafa Ah, that's fine then. Wasn't sure since you have the El Rafa nickname here, lol So here are my pointers for English guides.
If you are new to using Mastodon, there's a good guide here: https://lifehacker.com/a-beginner-s-guide-to-mastodon-1828503235

@kushal Good to hear that, Kushal!
I have been so busy with many online activities, that book reading has fallen down in priority. Motivates to hear your recommendation, TY!

And it's nice to see that the TechnicolorRainbow group is alive and well -- it's the home for the Book club at Hackers.Town instance.
One book a month, to be read by anyone interested, and can be discussed via the @TechnicolorRainbow Group. Neat.
January 2020 Book of the Month is : "Cult of the Dead Cow: How the Original Hacking Supergroup Might Just Save the World" by Joseph Menn.

Ant then, people post some beautiful images with their posts, and you are glad to have caught a glimpse.

@realcaseyrollins correction -- that was in the way to Baghdad airport, so in Iraq.
@ae Really lovely colours and shapes. Thank you, great photo.
@realcaseyrollins I looked at The Guardian, just after posting the link here last night, and they had a report on it. A drone attack, seems like as the general was on his way to or from Tehran airport.
An act of War, isn't it? Oh, the need of those TV stations to fill huge air time, 24 h a day. A lot of repetition and spin result. No patience for that, prefer to scan the headlines and read the ones I might be interested in, in good news site.
@khird That is neat, nice work, Kyle. 😛
I used to have Rdio, which I really liked and was content to sue as a free user. I now feel a tad guilty, since being happy with their generous content allowance for non-paying users ultimately led to their demise. And now we have less and inferior alternatives, Spotify being less enjoyable for me than Rdio was.
They had ads, but not so obtrusive as Spot. Have found ways to block the ads in spot, but that breaks the radio streams playback, which I like, a long session of music without having to make a playlist.
@Sphinx @mngrif If there is a red light ahead and I have space to reach it, I like to shift to neutral and let the car roll; control the speed, which is decreasing by tire friction and the motor no longer being engaged, control the speed with light brake touches. This is easy when you have experience driving the standard, for now do what feels safe for you.
The best is if you can avoid a full stop at the light at all; if you are still rolling, even slowly, and the light goes to green, I would trow into 2nd gear. As mngriff said, 1st gear is for starting up and very reduced, not good to trow a moving vehicle into it unless you are at very low speed,
@iankenway Interesting, learn something new everyday. Thanks Ian!
