* The Fediverse reminds me so much of FidoNet *

New Year's day, and all is quiet in the land. :-)

Remembered a blog idea; a few days ago, we were chatting in the network. About a situation that reminded me a lot of the BBS world; where I started in computers, dial-up modems, and the network called FidoNet...

New post, live at : write.tedomum.net/rgx/the-fedi

OP -- much prettier, Video link included, see screenshot : muensterland.social/@rgx/10435

Just had some interesting interaction with an AI in a Discourse Forum. Pretty cool, the Discobot.

Graduated as a user and got a certificate even. 😋

Truth is -- it teaches users valuable, basic forum skills.

@a1batross
I agree. A lot of hypocrisy there in those folks.

And Gab is gone, so people come and ask us here at Qoto is some of the people who Blocked US because we didn't block THEM (gab) will pull down the barriers.

I don't think so, there's animosity and once they build a grudge, it's hard to let go.

In some cases, the blocking sites are irrelevant. In others, I would care about them, and it's sad to see the pettiness poisoning a new project like fediverse is.

@Husky @penny @Sphinx

@design_RG @penny @Husky @Sphinx I hope I would not forget to make the patch where it would be impossible to tell which client was used.

There is only one thing possible right now: replacinh the application name and website. Helps with Mastodon because they expose this data. Not sure about Pixelfed.

This is literal harassment targetted at my users. Who they are to fucking judge people based on software?

@WaysideLiege That is really interesting. I had never heard of it, but love science fiction and this must have a lot of interesting aspects to learn about.

Thanks for the post!

@zleap I think Freemo posted some screenshots here once, and it was interesting, yes.

I come from the time when Telnet was my way in to my shell account in Colorado.

wow. That is a lot of download for a string replace, but yeah, it works. We did a quick hex edit when needed.

Just DON'T change the string size. Same number of Bytes, or it breaks things.

@Husky @Sphinx

@globcoco

>> Got that habit from Mamot to make it as short as possible😋

You know how much more a CR/LF adds ? One Byte, compared to what you had (a CR without a LF).

But I can understand, the 500 chars limit is cruel and does that to people. 😋

@compass_straight_edge

There is the Book Room (user level 1 and higher), and the Library for level 2 and higher. Levels are earned by participation and use of the forum.

Book Room is discourse.qoto.org/c/MEMBERS/B

@tedomum

Thank you! I have seen the box for custom css in the user control panel but never wanted to touch it. I like the default display (when it's showing a page directly, it's pretty, simple and looks good on mobile and desktop).

However -- when you see the full user blog stream, it compresses vertical spaces; this is the problem, I had thought it changed the width, but checked and it remains at 640 pixels, as it does in page view.

Sadly some programmed decided to save vertical space when displaying the bigger list, and it's damaging to content and presentation. Sucks, really.

Thank you for looking into this, much appreciated!

Yes, that is the neo-Fascist attittude of the stooges in the FediBlock hash tag. Saying they are out to oppose Fascists, they act like what they profess to despise.

(Fascists who by the way are NOT even in Fediverse anymore; Gab left about 10 days ago).

Incredibly dumb, but I wouldn't be worried about being blocked by those people. The instances that matter don't waste time with them.

Koyu.space has made a fork off Husky, and I tested it, very nice. Only problem, right now it only does one instance - ability to switch to others is not present. Sadly, as it's pretty and polished, and doesnt advertise the banished brand you are afraid of flying.

Nolan can be reacher either at @ nolan @ toot.cafe

or @ pinafore @ mastodon.social

I inserted spaces here so we won't bug him for now. I asked and he mentioned either address is ok to use for support , suggestions, questions, etc.

Have you seen the Husky mobile client yet? it's been made as a Tusky fork by a pleroma admin -- and the idea is to add what's missing.

He's got Markdown in it already, for example.

@Husky -- download link in this profile.

@Sphinx

@matt

Thank you so much, Matt. Sorry for the rant, but I was quite annoyed. As you can imagine.

My original post here had all the content in one post, and flowed perfectly.

@zleap @globcoco

@penny

You could make a request to Nolan -- he's the author. Problem is, he works on it on his spare time, a labour of love, and Pleroma support has been mentioned as not high priority in the past.

That could change if more people and instances did move to it.
