@a1batross

Yes, and Coralie is a wonderful new friend who just joined us here at Qoto.

Presentation is always very important - we are competing for attention, a rare commodity when there is so much going on, so much noise.

So make the posts nice looking, well laid out and attractive. And everyone wins.

Wonderful Paul, I am so glad you liked it and took it in stride.

Forum mods can edit any posts, and I could have done it -- but it was better to suggest and let you decide. Glad you did! 🙂

Thank you, Coralie! That was a wonderful user report, a glowing indication on how it pleases you. I concur - and am quite happy to be able to use Pinafore all the time now.

I first encountered it early in my journey into understanding the Fediverse. Although I have been in many different computer networks since the early 90's, I just joined fedi in November, 2019 -- my 8 months anniversary just passed.

Back in November I was looking for and reading Guides, so I could understand and get to know more; the day to day instance life in mastodon is only a fraction of all the is going on at anytime.

Tried different clients as well, and Pinafore was a surprise at first try -- the speed and lightness, clean design, all wonderful. I have always favoured efficient, lean software, so it is right down my alley.

Sadly, for at least two months, we suffered here at Qoto with a instance config problem; it did not communicate to any clients (other than the mastodon web client) the real maximum toot limit, which is 65 thousand characters.

All the other clients, Tusky, Pinafore, etc -- they used the default 500 chars, and that was a show stopper for me.

I was pained, loving Pina but being chained to that stupid 500 chars limit. Argh, so I had to use the web client mostly, for that reason.

Sometime in January a big bunch of updates and fixed corrected that, and we finally could enjoy it properly -- I remember taking and saving snapshots of the Toot editor showing 65,535 chars as I was ready to start.

Even after this mega reply, there's 63, 956 left now, lol.

sorry for the long post, but storytelling is good, I love it. And it is real recent history of life here.

Thanks indeed to Nolan for wonderful work. I do the best I can to spread the word. is for elite and power users.

Regular users too, if they bother trying and understanding what it offers.

item. .

@nolan

@11112011 That is such an unfair and undeserved advantage.

Imagine, you can print (or computer generate, pure Bits and Bytes) all the currency you want, and the world accepts it on payment for REAL goods.

I would love to see new Reserve Currencies come up. A few would be better than one too. Maybe one backed by bullion, under verified storage in a neutral country.

That would make a splash.

Rollo, shall be appreciated by all, except Hans. 😛😾

I like how #FediBlock is flooded with Minecraft.

At least, in our constellation.

@proto_azure There are, but it's pretty late for most of us. Going to bed now.

Hello, and welcome to Qoto.

Enjoy the network and all it has to offer. If you are new to using Mastodon, there's a good guide here: lifehacker.com/a-beginner-s-gu

We also have another new users guide, posted here : write.tedomum.net/rgx/suggesti

Discovering Pleroma — An Alternative to Mastodon

@a1batross I am writing a blog post about Pleroma, and your instance here is highlighted.😋

It’s on the Forum for now, but it’s basically finished; will have to resize images for the blog, but I like it.

Discourse Forum Article here

@globcoco take a look too. 😎

@svmihar Depends on what equipment you are using.

If using some computer, phone or table, laptop, etc -- their built in DAC is low end, low cost and not up to par with better audio equipment.

An external DAC can serve replacing that. Doesn't have to cost a fortune either.

I have a FiiO headphone amp that also includes a USB DAC interface. Connect it and it's seen as an external sound card. High quality DAC on board.

All for a very affordable price. Audiophile gear? that makes sense for the sellers.

Take a look. fiio.com/amp

The Pleroma FE (front end, or user interface -- Intro Guide here -- docs-develop.pleroma.social/ba )

...is a bit unusual for a mastodon user - but it HAS a second choice of Client;

Many Pleroma instances have the Glitch-Social Web client as an option, sometimes as a link in their Front pages even. That one is nearly identical to the one here in our instance.

(except, it has added features if you are interested in using them. Like MarkDown text formatting support, which MastoDonT )

For those of us who like to Read The Friendly Manual, there's a detailed Pleroma FE Guide here -- docs-develop.pleroma.social/fr

Pleroma, which is a newer and more advanced platform for the Fediverse. It can do the same as Mastodon and more.

It is also built from scratch to be more streamlined - requires less computing resources, runs on less powerful machines.

And it has Extra features too.

Many people might not know it, or heard a little. But it is a really interesting alternative.

I do have accounts in a couple of Pleroma instances, and plan to investigate the software more closely, and write a Blog on my findings.

Quite pleased now that I figured out a way to get a comfortable User Interface for me while using it -- Pleroma has a different look, by design, but you can also use it with a Mastodon Front End.

And then, it's just like what you and I are used to. Easier.

Screenshot to show what I mean.

Same posts showing in both, for comparison.

@globcoco Coralie, this is a neat and comfortable UI, while using Pleroma.

Mastodon Fe, with Mobile setting for single column display. I like it.

@design_RG approves too.

Trying to search to boost a cool post I just saw elsewhere. A beautiful watercolour, Science theme.

But alas -- no search results; likely hit one of the Blockades against Qoto.

Sucks.
