Procrastination is a super-motivater. I can get anything done, as long as it’s helping me procrastinate from some other task.

It’s cute how my dog cannot believe there’s tasty food in the room and it’s not already in her mouth. She’s like “what is this iNjUStiCe? how can this be allowed??!”

Oh KDE!
Just had Plasma crash on me. Typed out a bug report, installed debug symbols, created a bugs.kde account, … and there’s an “Error submitting your bug report” (with no further details). And then the crash handler program “DrKonqi” itself hangs, and has to be force-terminated. At that point it crosses over from a sad state of affairs to just being funny.

I know that a lot of people have the opposite experience, but I have rarely experienced these famed “stability problems” on Windows, and certainly not to the level I’ve experienced them on Linux over many many years.

The fifth time I’ve had to hard reboot my system, after having installed Linux. Looks like I’m dual-booting Windows after all, this Linux-only experiment has run for months and has had its fun parts, but the results are clear.

Chalk is composed of the skeletons of countless microbes, long-dead, even their seas are now dead.
When chalk squeals on a blackboard it is the impotent scream of countless dying wraiths as their reliquaries are annihilated

An oddity in English: "island" and "isle" are unrelated. "Isle" is from Latin (insula), and came into English as "ile" through French. "Island" is Germanic, and was originally "iland". In the 16th century, scholars added the "s" back into "ile" to make it conform more with the Latin original - and people mistakenly started adding it to "iland" as well, creating the modern "island".

When there’s news about bad decisions by a company/org, reading the Hacker News comments helps calm me down. I realize “at least these dumbasses aren’t in charge, so it’s not as bad as it could be”.

This is a picture of the first moments of a nuclear explosion taken in 1952. The blast radius at this moment is less than 20 meters wide.

There are so many extraordinary things about this photo. First off the fact that they had a camera in the 1950's capable of such insanely high speed frame rates (they created a movie from this) that it was capable of 1,000,000 frames per second. In many ways that is more impressive than the nuclear bomb itself.

Second the fact that you can see, in real time, a nuclear explosion as it happens. Those spikes at the bottom are called the "rope trick effect" which is caused by the support cables inside or holding up the bomb. The light radiation is so intense it vaporizes anything nearby causing things to explode just from the intensity of the light itself (before radiation has any effect at all). So those spikes are literally just the support cables exploding in the extraordinarily bright light from the bomb.
