@flsounds What a nice gift! I’ll have to take a look at their other offerings. I only ever buy their sandals and platform sandals (so comfy!)
@flsounds I’m really enjoying Metatext.
I was using the Mastodon app originally and I found it frustrating but just put up with it because I thought it was the only option 🙈
It looks nice, has an “edit” feature (it pastes your message so you can edit it and deletes the original in one go), it loads new toots and notifications quicker.
Let me know what you think if you try it. I wish I’d found it sooner!
whoami:
Mike. Based in the Seattle area. Originally from the UK, so have developed a sort of weird half American half British accent which I don't like but can't do anything about, so whatever.
Been in infosec for ~16 years. Mostly technical stuff, but they let me talk to customers as well.
Accidental author. Got bored of Hollywood versions of 'cyber', when the real stories were often entertaining enough anyway, so I started to write them down. https://author.to/sheward
I enjoy exploring all things RF. Away from the 'biz', huge sports fan, mostly motorsport - including F1, F2, FE, Indycar, MotoGP. Curator of 3 dogs.
@flsounds I wear sandals all year round (minus snow days) and my feet take a battering. I have used them once before and the difference wasn’t so drastic that it was uncomfortable. But it’s something to consider - I’ve put it off a few times before an upcoming hike, just in case.
In this frenzy of joining and following, it's easy to miss malicious intent. If you happen to notice I'm following (egads, or boosting!) someone hateful or abusive, please let me know. It's likely I just quickly clicked to follow back without noticing someone was a racist or a terf or something else gross, or I missed their me-too story. I've also occasionally followed bad people to see what they're saying, though I'm less likely to do that here with the Local & Federated timelines. Pls tell me.
I’ve gone all 2020 and I’m using one of those foot peel mask things that takes off about 100 layers of skin over a period of two weeks.
I bought them about 1 year ago and you have to sit with them on your feet in little plastic booties for a whole hour & I’ve not been able to get my act together to do it. 🙈
I can't believe I'm saying this after such a rocky start. But I'm starting to get into #SonicFrontiers . After a very slow start it does get better.
#MineralMonday contribution
For #MineralMonday, a wee bowl of peridot (olivine) I dug out of the world-class #peridot deposits on San Carlos Apache land east of Phoenix, AZ. We were invited and accompanied to the mining/claim site by a tribal member with tribal permission, which we were told is pretty rare. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, a great honor, and an incredible day.
Great Music
Tonight’s song is the chronically catchy “Return to the Moon (Political Song for Didi Bloome to Sing, with Crescendo)” by El Vy.
This band is the brainchild of Matt Berninger of The National and Brent Knopf of Romana Falls.
I really want a lightweight 4x4 hybrid pickup with an 800cc engine and a 7000km range! Oh! it is £150k! OK, call me when you sell me the something similar for £45k #xp https://www.carsales.com.au/editorial/details/fering-pioneer-electric-ute-has-7000km-range-132091/?fbclid=IwAR1LjNwbjC2V25FBs9V2i3jvPD3vP0y-gGFe5RV17iaIwfL-Q3p6Hgb0tBE
I've been a Pandora subscriber for ~15 years. Been using YouTube music since lately and the recommendations that come up when you start a "radio" station have felt weird and I just found the words for it.
YouTube music is like that relative that found out you liked Pokemon when you were 15 and still gets you Pokemon themed gifts for every single Christmas 20 years later
@flsounds you can also find more info here: @metabolist
Finally decided to #3dprint myself a desk organizer to make my desk actually organized, really happy with the result.
Although it took me roughly 15 hours for the blue and another 2 hours for the orange
The astronomy 101 lab I teach this week involves playing with this fantastic sun motion simulator: https://ccnmtl.github.io/astro-simulations/sun-motion-simulator/
(I didn't write it! But I am so glad it exists)
Though it's always so depressing to see how short our days are at this time of year. Oof, the Sun won't get above 20.3 degrees high tomorrow. Gross.
@flsounds I use MetaText. A bit janky at times (especially with scrolling!) but I generally like it. Home/Local/Federated timelines are easily accessed.
Haven't noticed many slowdowns with old posts or anything.
And a bit superficial but I enjoy the logo.
Seth MacFarlane was clearly so affected by this (and his encyclopedic knowledge of lounge and lounge acts likely played a part) that Family Guy gives a contextless reference to the entire perfomance here:
…Here to keep up with the times, meet creatives, and share music…
I’m a creative layman who loves music. I live in the Florida Panhandle and work retail.
