(I think I'm finally getting the hang of flex nib calligraphy!)

So I decided from now on Im signing all future documents in Gothic Blackletter.

This was before i started practicing (a week ago).

My first full attempt at flair / flex writing. For comparison see the comments for a picture of my handwriting before beginning practicing calligraphy.

A music nib can mean a lot of different things from one manufacturer to another. A "true" music nib IMO means an extra broad tip of some kind with 2 ink channels instead of just one. This definition holds true for the Pilot, Platinum and most other Music nibs but sometimes youll see them with just one slit (such as with Sailor brand). I dont consider this a music nib though it is labeled as such.

Best way to describe a music nib is a 03B (triple broad) nib that is extra-wet.

Even when a manufacturer honors this definition there is a lot of variation. The Platinum for example is the smoothest of all nibs, not the slightest bit of scratchiness. But it also doesnt have a particularly sharp profile so feels more like writing with a marker than a wet italic nib. With that said the nice thing about this pen is you can write with it in reverse very effectively. In this way it becomes a very sharp italic, almost as wet, but it is a bit scratchy.

The pilot music is a bit sharper when writing normally, a buit drier than the platinum but wetter than a normal nib. Not as smooth a writer but still fairly smooth.

There are even flex music nibs, but if you want a wet-noodle flex on a music nib your going to pay a lot of money for that. Best I saw was a waterman 52 with a music nib. But those are from 1910 and your going to pay in the hundreds.

I have a shimmer ink and I do like how it looks when it writes correctly. Issue is that the sparkles settle out even on high quality inks. So you get inconsistent coloring and even ink flow issues. So I dont use it anymore as much as I wish I could.

So apparently my choice of paper has been holding me back this whole time. Switched to a new paper designed to be the best for fountain pens. My Blackletter instantly leveled up. Apparently the last paper had just the slightest bit of bleed enough to loose some of the fine detail.

@MutoShack@functional.cafe I have one of those, as well as the imitation one by wings. Totally different function for a pen though. TWISB is a good, stiff, everyday writer, feels good in the hands and looks cool. You cant, however, get extra fancy writing out of it like you can with an italic or flex nib. But if your only use is going to be chicken scratch note taking or anything where speed is more important than appearance then TWISB will be a perfect match.

I have a Nikimi Falcon I use as my every day writer. Just stiff enough to be a fast normal writer but with enough flex you can still add a little character when needed.

My second attempt at a spencerian style script using an italic 1.5mm nib on a Lamy pen.

My first attempt at a spencerian script with a 1.5mm italic nib from Lamy (no flex). Spencarian scripts are really hard for me.

@Surasanji Well clearly, no one in their right mind would expect me to sign something if I dont have a cape with me!

They actually have a type of fude pen that has a literal paint brush for a tip. It is filled with fountain pen ink. They cost like $6 and i ordered one of them too.
