@Surasanji A flex nib is a nib that easilt bends under pressure. When it does the tines spread out and the line width drastically increases. This lets you control line width as you write to create fancy looking letters. Its a form of cursive italic that takes a lot of practice, the other easier form just uses a fixed wide nib and you vary line width by angle.

A flex nib, if its a good at flex, feels more like a paint brush.

Kinda excited. Just ordered a vintage fountain pen from 1910. It is made by the company that invented fountain pens and is known as one of the best Flex pens ever made. I think I'm finally done buying pens, I should have everything I need now for writing :)

A comparison of my name written with flair vs without (using a pens flex capabilities). I need better paper though and a pen with softer flex. In fact I just ordered a vintage pen from around 1910 that is one of the best flex pens of all time...

Top row is with flex/flair, bottom is without.

I've been trying to come up with my own style of Gothic font that works well with my music nib. This is what I have so far. I need to perfect the spacing but otherwise I like this style so far.

@illandan Yes I'm aware, I am trying to stick to everyday fountain pens right now. A set I can carry with me and use at any time

@PunaisetPimpulat My music nib is VERY broad (probably a 3B) But it isnt calligraphy, none of the pens are. But it comes closer than the rest.

@MominRasool Playing with all the cool nibs is fun. When i first got the music nib earlier today I hated it. Now that I learned what it can and cant do I am starting to love it.

@MominRasool I'm familiar with the sentance. I use it a lot for cursive practice because it has some of the combos in it that are difficult for me (like v followed by r and b followed by r). So it has been pretty useful :)

Another example of just what a music nib can do. This is my first time doing a lot of these fancy print letters, still perfecting the letter a though. I dont like the first one, but the others are nicer.

@MominRasool You should have seen how bad it looked before I started practicing (only a few days now),

So I tried three special nibs and I love them all. I dont think I will ever use a traditional nib on a fountain pen again. Here is a comparison of the three types all with the same ink: Fude Nib, Music Nib, and Flex Nib.

@Vetra Fair, i could see it as being part of your identity. Though I wouldnt suggest giving up your left hand all together. But yea in that case maybe check out the videos for lefties doing calligraphy, they probably have all sorts of tips.

@Vetra Well you could always learn to be right handed. I learned to use my left hand and since then I have no trouble with either hand (Though right is natural).. With that said I know lots of calligraphers who are left handed, they do a lot of videos. So should be possible.
