As they said, if you block an instance and someone from another instance shares from that instance, then you cant see that boost anyway. So the argument has always been moot and self defeating.

Moreover, any "bad content" wouldnt get shared in the first place since our instance is made up of good actors who dont promote content that is contrary to that.

Thanka. Right now i just want a place where stem professionals can collaborate, have fun and have a place that feels peaceful to chat... what social media was meant to be just geared towards us nerds ;)

@higharchmage Then you have certainly picked a great place to be. Though keep in mind there are also many great servers that fall under the STEM umbrella that might be worth interacting with from your account here. Or not, up to you :)

@arinbasu yes exactly and that is what the intent was, to create an ecosystem of free, opensource (and ideally federated) apps that can work together to enable STEM professionals to collaborate on open projects.

gitlab acts as a source repository

funkwhale acts as a way to do podcasts

peertube is a replacement for youtube for posting videos and media

discourse acts as mailing lists for projects (I can setup sub forums for any specialized projects)

Stuff like that. Where possible i tried to use projects based on ActivityPub so they are on the fediverse. For example you can follow a peertube account from your main QOTO account here. That way when someone posts a video on the peertube account it will show as a post here in your home timeline. So everything (where possible) all talks to eachother.

@arinbasu There sure are, and gitlab gets you a free ultimate license with all the bells and whistles (nnormally 100$ a month).

While the local users here are pretty awesome (though im a bit biased) I do recommend spreading out into the federated feed. There are many amazing users and servers across the fediverse as well.

@arinbasu They are certainnly open to you. you need to create accountns on the respective servers (and in some case get permission from me to activate your quota). But yes they are welcome for you to use.
