But anyone can find as many red flags as they want — *evidence* (or in this case, the lack thereof) and presumption of innocence is what counts. He also wonders why there were observers at all, if the process is supposed to be so clean and fair (by the same logic, air travel must be riddled with safety issues and we should assume it's much more dangerous than people think, since there are so many checks and protocols and inspectors).

### Adventures in Pettiness

Man I have gotten so petty with food delivery services lately.

Normally, pre-covid I always was happy with service, the occasional mistake, but for the most part it wasn't too bad. Happily gave a pre-paid generous tip every time and left it at that.

Since covid however, and really even a little before that service has went to shit. About 75% of the time, maybe more, significant portions of my order are missing or simply made completely different than described on the menu (like getting a meat pizza when you order veggie or something)... and about 98% of the time the delivery person doesnt follow the delivery instructions on where to leave the food, which is important since i live in the city and I dont want my food just out in the open.

Anyway the problem is so rampant im at the point where I tip 0$ up front and add the tip after and ONLY if the instructions are followed exactly, if they dont no tip for them. But with a catch, everytime I give 0 tip i added to a running tally and when someone actually delivers the food correct I go on the app and add the tip post delivery **plus** the running tally. It is usually a 4x bigger than usual tip but sometimes even more.

Moreover if even a single item is wrong, and assuming the restaurant didnt call first to confirm it was ok, I demand the item be redelivered and if they refuse I demand a refund. I do this even if its just something as simple as a bottled water. The idea is that restaurants, if they need to foot the bill for redelivery, will not keep making these mistakes.

Yesterday i had an order that was missing my drinks, 2 diet soda. I demanded a delivery and I only got 1 diet soda, so demanded a second redelivery and got my second drink. I can only imagine how grump the delivery guy was needing to make 3 round trips for free... But hey, do your damn job and you wont have to!

Science is about observation, sharing those observations, discussing those observations, and getting better at predicting what we expect to observe given certain conditions... that is all science is about, doing that and doing it well. Right and wrong is the domain of the human ego and rests squarely outside of science.

Python multiprocessing can go fuck itself... thats all... good night, im going to bed salty as fuck though.

LOL the algo is up to consuming 20 gigs right now on this stress test. Good thing I have 64 gigs of high speed memory :)

Stress testing my algo across 600 simultaneous threads at once on a 32 core CPU at once. This thing is a beast when it comes to parallelization!

I get a sort of perverse pleasure as I watch my algorithm use up 24 out of 32 of my CPU cores at 100%... this is what it was all for. No more running the heater for me!

man I love this.. so when i did regular signale threaded optimization i got my algo from 16.7 minutes down to about 1 minute Now I moved to multithreading and it runs in about 5 seconds.

Never skip your optimizations people!

I just got a SOG Baton Q2 knife in the mail today. I think this is going to become my new everyday carry, I really like the design.

It is essentially a fixed blade folding knife, which you would think is a contradiction. But the knife blade and handle themselves are fix and its actually the sheath that folds down and away. I never saw a knife like this before. I generally dont like folding knives as they can under certain circumstances fold on you while using them and potentially cause a huge injury. But fixed blade knives tend to be big and not really well suited as an every day carry. This one seems to solve that problem giving you the convenience and size of a foldable knife while still being fixed blade.

Really really impressed with the innovation on this knife considering knives are so rarely innovative.

How many of you would recognize SOS in morse code if you heard it?

Abstract

Quantum teleportation is essential for many quantum information technologies, including long-distance quantum networks. Using fiber-coupled devices, including state-of-the-art low-noise superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors and off-the-shelf optics, we achieve conditional quantum teleportation of time-bin qubits at the telecommunication wavelength of 1536.5 nm. We measure teleportation fidelities of ≥90% that are consistent with an analytical model of our system, which includes realistic imperfections. To demonstrate the compatibility of our setup with deployed quantum networks, we teleport qubits over 22 km of single-mode fiber while transmitting qubits over an additional 22 km of fiber. Our systems, which are compatible with emerging solid-state quantum devices, provide a realistic foundation for a high-fidelity quantum Internet with practical devices.

Well improving the performance of my algo has been a success. My benchmark used to run in 16.7 minutes, and now it runs in 1.75 minutes. This is single threaded for both so havent even touched multithreading improvements which should be doable as well.
