If you lived in Argentina, and instead of holding pesos, you converted them to Bitcoin at the beginning of the year, then you would have lost even more money.

Hey everyone, I'm an American student working toward a BS in CS.

I like reading, going to concerts, and thinking about music and physics. I'm considering a career in the likes of signal processing, machine learning, data science, or computer vision.

Hey there ! A for you:

You are going to die in one year. A magical pixie has told you so, and there is no getting out of it. However, the magical pixie has also granted you a SINGLE wish with a caveat: This wish must be use totally selfishly. IT can not be used to directly help or benefit anyone but you.

What do you wish for?

Mastodon first-timer here! I have a Masters in psychology, a passion for medicine (especially diseases), and a general interest in science. I’m looking for a career in data analysis, as I like working with data and sussing out issues and correcting them.

I’m always eager to learn new things! I already feel like this will be a good place for that, so I’m looking forward to it!

Hi everyone, I just tried Mastodon out since yesterday (I heard about it for a while tho).
I'm finishing my master degree in CS next year in France. I'm a FOSS enthousiast and a great fan of formal methods (in CS at least).

Short term: I'm learning Rust (for those into CS stuff you should definitly take a look at it if you haven't already) and doing a chess AI (a modest one compared to what we do today).

Medium term: Work and live for a while in China to learn about those guys, I think we still don't understand each other well enough.

Long term: try to improve the way we as humans interact with Big Data, AI and computers in general because I think that our usage is not sane yet (and especially for Big Data).

I didn't plan to introduce myself but I guess that's a kind of tradition. I'm looking forward to read and write interesting stuff with you guys 😀

Hey all I'm a city dweller and live in a busy city.
I love music and am 24. There's not a reason to boast beside I'm really good at playing keyboard, yet can't even read sheet music yet. As you may tell I've been mellow a lot but I like to get a rise when I speak up. So you may like me for sharing other content on the Web, or YouTube content.

I plan to develop tutorials for making beats like Hip Hop. And I have an Instagram for that as well. I've been beatmaking for 10 yrs plus. Ability to mix and master, especially honing the timbral qualities and mix inside of one digital audio program and then transferring that entire song to another digital program to master it. I have my ways now, but I grew up a decade on a beat machine composing some cool shit.

My favorite color is, idk, I don't have one anymore. Favorite number is still 27. I love being on the transit to get to gym, or school. So that says a lot about my walking distances but not much about how active I am.
Unfortunately very inactive guy but I hit the gym almost every other day or every day when I'm on a streak.

I have a lot of ambitions in my life, and go to college. Learned some coding this past year, and seeking to specialize Python lang code for Machine Learning, developing a Django website, creating a trading bot, and involve other languages as I mature in the process.

I have so many secret side-joys that it is embarrassing. I don't share anything beyond my social feed to other people. So if I make good friends I eventually open up.

I like to be on social networks, but the reason you see me here is mainly due to seeing the potential in networks back in the early days. See, people would appreciate FaceBook as a colleague's social network and MySpace as the playground and marketplace of ideas (see: bulletins).

Now the landscape has changed and people who see Web 2.0 as a morph between expensive servers and web clients are called millenials. Instead of seeing it for what it should have been this whole time: 2.0 should have led to decentralizing content from big brother (which to some small extent it did), and 3.0 could have skyrocketed this renaissance to networking.

Long story short, my personal belief is using Mastodon helps me convey things about myself without worrying about the network flow which succumbs consistently to big tech (Google prime example) and about being censored through financial mediums for wrongthink. I also hold to an ideal that decentralization in general is OK, but that cryptocurrencies will become poison sooner than never.

There is no tangible exception to using Cryptocurrencies and that should worry anyone who is skeptical as to how some (i.e. Ethereum) have been operating.
And again I really want to enjoy this, I hope it's fun as well as informative. I can see memes already in the federated timeline.

Tore up my bike with a night time 10 mile bike ride (16km) at 11pm. I love dutch farm land in the middle of the night being all alone.

I am also pretty proud of my average moving speed (had to stop for a phone call at one point), it was almost 10 mph (16 kph) over the course of the whole trip.
