magic!

I've just finished my new post: TEM mode analysis with an finite element differential equation solver. comphysblog.wordpress.com/2018

In this post I calculate the electric and magnetic fields on a coaxial cable, characteristic impedance of the line, the Poynting vector, the conductor and dielectric loss, an estimated loss coefficient, Q-factor and s-parameter for a given length of cable.

Coax has been a useful example for comparisons with analytical results but the methods are very general. TEM modes of systems with different geometries can also be analysed with the exact same techniques!

Very happy to hear any comments, corrections or suggestions.

Just finished another 10 mile (16 km) bike ride 🚲. The longest and fastest I've went since I started dieting and exercising a few months back. Its amazing what loosing 50 lbs (22 kg) will do!

Hello Qoto! Without the intention of confirming anything that I will write henceforth, I might be a European physicist who specialized in strongly correlated electron systems, who's currently possibly working as a teacher, and who might dream of publishing novels. It might also be that none of that is true. I also read that qoto supports matematical Latex so all of my dreams have come true

So I decided part of the reason development on is going so slow is me repeating the same code in my DAO layer in multiple spots. A bit of a shortcoming of

Ferma is a database extraction layer for graph databases

Luckily as the founder of Ferma I can always just add new features to the code base there (its also open-source). So im going to try to toss in some new Ferma features for handling sets and object copying.

For those interested the source code :opensource: for both are below, they are written in Java :java:

A blast from the past for all the #Linux people out there. Behold, the Linux Platypus! This is a proposed mascot for Linux that predates Tux, the penguin.
Hat tip to @craigmaloney for the trip down memory lane!

I added an emoji for the logo of my personal blog ( JeffreyFreeman.me ). :jpf:

If anyone wants any emoji added just send it to me as a png less than 50kb and I will add it for you. Everyone in the fediverse will be able to see it.

So I started working on my text based MMORPG again last night (referred to as MUDs). I am going to convert the world data from JSON text yo using a graph database through. instead. The world is the only thing left to convert, items spawns and character data was already converted. After that I'll work on getting the fight dynamics to where I want it.

The game is called AetherMud and it is open-source :opensource: and written in Java :java:

You can find the source code here: github.com/Syncleus/AetherMUD
