I decided to give a try with some talk-therapy. Nothing particularly troubling going on in my life, just thought it was worth trying and see how I may improve from it.
I am trying out an online service rather than in person and the therapist is int he USA. I have to say im really troubled by the policies in the USA regarding therapy. Specifically that a therapist is not allowed to legally treat you unless you provide contact information so if they think you are a threat to yourself or to others they can basically get you committed against your will. Its a requirement and if you wont give it they wont give you therapy.
This seems astoundingly reckless as a policy. for starters it would cause anyone who is suicidal to avoid the help they need, and second, it puts people at risk of either not being candid with their therapist or potentially being abused by the therapist if they misinterpret some perceived risk.
While I have never been suicidal I also dont trust anyone with that level of power over me. I am barely a few minutes in to therapy and already I was forced to lie about my name and identity. Something I should not need to do, I should have a right to privacy and anonymity if I chose.

covid-19, gratitude
Heartfelt appreciation from me, an immunocompromised person, to everyone out here on the fediverse doing what they can to manage the spread of coronavirus. So many little hardships & efforts can seem pointless–we never know which gestures might not end up mattering at all, & which will have a huge unseen impact. But at the very least every contribution is a sign of human solidarity & care in the face of frustration & fear that can hopefully spread to others. So thank you all💝
The biggest risk in the coronavirus epidemic in my non-expert opinion is going to be assortment. IF this happens with any of the strains already adapted to infect humans we might really be in trouble...
We already know that Coronaviruses int he wild are capable of recombination...
A good read and somewhat related:
Wong MC, Cregeen SJ, Ajami NJ, Petrosino JF (February 2020). "Evidence of recombination in coronaviruses implicating pangolin origins of nCoV-2019". bioRxiv (preprint). doi:10.1101/2020.02.07.939207.
I'm not particularly scared of the Coronavirus.. yes a lot of people will die and it will be a tragedy and I wish it could be avoided, but its not the end of the world, most of us will make it through.
What scares me though is if this thing starts recombinating with the other coronavirus strains, plus there may already be two strains of the one causing the epidemic too.
If this thing start recombinating the problem is never going to go away and vaccines may never be possible. That is a scary though.
Is #RimWorld any good?
While we're all focused on the Corona crisis the US government is quietly pushing an internet #surveillance bill that is aimed at abolishing message encryption:
We should probably pay attention to this and spread awareness even if we are not American: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2020/03/earn-it-bill-governments-not-so-secret-plan-scan-every-message-online
Some really nice eye candy showing various quarantining and social distancing techniques and how it effects the spread of a virus.
Worth checking this out even if its just for the animations:

Its so good to know so many of the projects I founded or am project owner on (open-source projects specifically) are used by so many people. Its easy to forget but everytime I release a new version the emails start flying in from people thanking me or asking questions. It really keeps me going.
