9 reasons not to have children
By phil rooksby on January 13, 2025

🔴 1) they are the sole reason why this planet is currently experiencing climate meltdown.

Quite simply there are far too many of us to be sustainable.

More on that below.

🔴 2) more children means higher taxes (including the community charge) to pay for all the services they will use.

🔴 3) everyone will have to wait (even) longer to get treated on the NHS. Especially as children get priority.

🔴 4) travel and entertainment will continue to get more expensive, to pay for the concessions given to children.

🔴 5) equality for women will never be achieved, not whilst they are seen primarily as bearers of children.

🔴 6) women who choose to have a child, and it is their choice, face a significantly higher risk of developing health problems (both physical and mental), some of which can be permanent or fatal. As well as placing an extra burden on the already overstretched NHS.

🔴 7) parents (the child-burdened) suffer far more stress and financial problems than those who chose to remain child-free.

🔴 8) each new child will become responsible for yet more torture, death and the extinction of thousands of other species.

🔴 9) each new child will mean more houses, more roads and more physical infrastructures, at the cost of the countryside. At this rate there will be soon be none left.

In conclusion.

🔴 We are currently being bombarded by politicians, by so-called experts and by the media on how best to solve the problems our rapid growth has caused. A multitude of confusing arguments and counter-arguments. Yet most people, deep down, know we have taken the wrong path.

The term sustainable is being used a lot as a solution. But how many people actually know what this really means?

The true definition, as opposed to those being used to sell products or policies, is this:

the maximum number a species can reach before its impact starts to have a detrimental effect on other species.

For us, that number is about one million (worldwide).

Which for most of our existence on this planet we have managed to stay below. It was only when we stopped being nomadic, which was relatively recent, and began living in permanent settlements instead, that we started to grow and then exceed that. Putting pressure on the surrounding ecology so we had to travel further and further to find what we needed.

That rise in numbers was still very slow. It wasn’t until the UK became the industrial workshop of the world that our use of the planet’s natural resources started to speed up exponentially.

To give you some idea how quickly things got out of control, let’s take a look back over the last three hundred years, starting with 1725. A time when the only way to travel was by walking, riding a horse or by boat. The population of the UK then had grown to 7 million.

By 1825, the way were living had changed radically. The rich forcing everyone to leave their rural lives and move to their newly created factory cities. In just 100 years our population grew to 20 million.

In 1925, electricity, cars and air travel had arrived and the number rose to 38 million.

Today, and remember this is in the UK alone - a small island compared to the rest of the world – that number has now increased to 69 million and still growing. Twenty times as many people living here than just 300 years ago.

Add in the rest of the world, and is it any wonder the majority of all the other species have already gone, along with their habitats.

Is it surprising that with each new person born there will be even less food, even less water and even less of all the other essential resources to go round.

NOT HAVING CHILDREN is a no-brainer. We either carry on as we are, believing all will be fine. Or stop behaving selfishly and each do something that will change the world so there is a future to look forward to.

MY COMMENT TO :
Hmm that's good and bad.... maybe more bad because people are jumping from fire into fire constantly instead of long-run preparing...

People prefer talking and working with #machines and not talking to people... sometimes making articles and other stuff about it... but not heading towards the longer real contact...

@Daojoan I dread to even look at the link you add because so many times the hope isn't realised from people who don't reply in depth after such great titles or they do not actually spend time with people themselves despite pointing to the problem, and only write about it (sometimes / it seems).
To go deeper themselves in conversation...? And ACTUALLY build people () with strangers)?...

Who is actually doing that here apart from me?

VIRTUE-SIGNAL-ONLY PEOPLE...
= People virtue signalling but not quite 'doing' something two-way - not really able to do the people work they were talking about HONESTLY - occasionally people hit nail on head only as article or emotional out-burst and then flop at actually investing in people and can't even string deeper messages like a mini-project - hit the point of risk and then bail instead of inching deeper - this evades at the moment and I can provide evidence and names (yes that's how bad / long it's gone for, how many posts and people tried)...

So that's also 'the next level' to after this stage of realising... well done on a good title. I've got 10,000 also.

Daily trying - it's really that bad even with those that might agree with me and respond again in short depth ... So past that 'putting finger on ' I wonder who actually allocates time to talking to people for a long time, you?

Are you going to actually DM me? (without it sounding demanding but just yeah what's the point? Should I visit another link saying what I know already or do this part like a test first? (can this person respond / willingly talk more? Or not?)

No matter what people say... in order to TIME IS NEEDED and TALKING to people is needed on their terms... not just articles or waving flags... but people can't accept the or nature of making friends or building because that involves talking to ' ' or making friends with the worlds which is so stupid and the problem with so many excuses.
Yes strangers and yes you don't even need to know their name - their profile SAYS PLENTY IF YOU LOOKED PAST THE BANNER AND AVATAR.

You're chance here is to answer and continue via DM or even publicly build...

And if you don't really respond I'm not sure why you would post such a thing... There near 0 actual builder of people here,

And 99999999 talking to machines or commenting on this and that bug but not out their own bugs or challenging own (the real work, / is nothing if not those that let them)... usually because it would involve doing less# computer work (which is a lot of why we're in this mess.

Well that's pretty good short version...

People prefer / working on / with and not themselves or others )... or making just articles about it...

You might get some "hoorah!" and "wow yes" responses but it can seem terrible empty after like a where people say a lot but all go home and the door on each other really fast 🚗 〰️ 🌬️

(so this comment is also for others to see others and try / making )

This comment isn't to deter you or others.... isn't perfect but you can it and it with time.

Awesome AND / BUT computer systems are not enough... more work WITH people is needed, growing communication skills and the lives of others towards more of the same?

Great in many ways AND such speed is phenomenal...

Now the real 'next level' beyond systems to install is to actually invest time to talk with everyone and improve our ability to talk to each other... (this is not happening often enough in depth in most places / anywhere)

(That's the first small TLDR - more explained below)

I say this to you attempting the people-building stuff like I was a veteran for trying - homeless on the Fediverse as a result...
because mostly:

--> People are not investing in people (as it takes time / really they are not interested / want to keep separate but somehow want the world to be together)

--> Not wanting to doing the crushing mind work on their own life or with others, this is a big problem. Also another kind of

---> Not wanting to follow in the another person's mind for a while to see 'ah right they have a point even though big parts I'm not sure about and thought they were crazy at first'

Basically making friends with strangers... ⬅️ CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?!!
(said like it was the obvious funny thing to say and not shouting too loud either)

So I'm just asking can you do that? Would you be willing to try? (this is not any "all-in" question, can be step-by-step but is naturally a bit connected and demanding to reply / accept others). That is what is needed to build with people not just install systems that 'could' connect us like we already before if not as rich.

You have done great - but perhaps all is in one way.
Machines. Code. Not people.

The "radical" work and real change is doing "the people-work" as the main system change, and then slowly gather together the best of us to do better in more things.

➡️ That's starting 1 to 1 or 2/3 people ... 1 to many ... then many to many... (a mix also but chaos can also undo progress so from left to right first 1-to1 we can even do openly here)

So I suggest dealing with our own stuff, on / with / for others but ultimately keeping in touch almost until the end and even finding others to help do the same.

This gets real advanced when the :XP: "XP" points of the people in life increases and not just in machine installing or constantly changing code - it's dealing with why people are too afraid of their own shadow or humanity out there and measurably dealing with that. Our communication practice and confidence needs improving and "upgrading" (the arrival of computers were good but also now distraction)...

Nothing other than using the magic card of "time"and "reply" button does this. I admit it helps to have a nicer profile but at the end it's not about the aesthetics or even names online - you could be called 123 for all we need to talk because there are some who are like 'give me your name or I give you nothing' at some point and quit out. Those that still don't get pseudonyms or how outside oppression works to track people down- obviously could be explained or shown.

I really like how many things you've covered and the systems you've bought / installed / tried and tested....

Now walk with me a bit about ... as are not enough /to actually do the people work / we've had enough of what channels we've had for a while now and mostly done it as one-way 'system' things instead of "people-growing-people system"...

To improve just computer systems is not quite all of it but the various 'communication' protocols people have and can learn so they don't immediately falter when others have a slightly different way because simply they are just different / unique but in the same/similar ways!

Yours Sincerely

HINT 1: "The rebellion will be federated" — Elena Rossini

It's not just about the Tech barons though - it's about the average person that can't do a lot of people work... daily / weekly. (a lot is with excuses about 'time' but they spend a lot of it online not actually making friends, instead hating Trump perhaps)

HINT 2: reply here or DM to start building at least if you see someone here / me that is able to reply. You will get a lot that can't or people that reply 1 or 2 things and consider it too much already to do more as if that is not the cause of lack of depth in life).

You can't do this the same way as computer installed things
because improving other people themselves needs other people with that... best way I can think of to improve everything else, more than anything else I can think of.

Your Sincerely

@rwg @nate ⭐+1⭐ for the text version which allows a quick look and on old systems works a treat or even modern system sometimes needs a fall back...

A simple slides system though some images didn't load, a lot - although I have flakey internet, still reloading didn't make a difference...

So feel free to check or chalk that one on me, and hence another good version of it would be the all-in-1 PDF or very similar 1 file... is that possible?

I might be confusing a with here in this post - but also that seems like a 'company' of sorts with it's own similar pattern (as company or company helping provide it with ) - so it's hard to separate these kinds of competitive and territorial entities, one setup within the other.

@randahl The tiktok ban boils down to "it's only okay to use these shady practices to try and control the population if WE do it".

The US wants to ban TikTok, because they know that social network algorithms can be abused to prioritize content in a way that manipulates the public discourse.

That is fair. But what about how algorithms on American social media can be used to manipulate the public discourse in the EU?

Have you seen any EU politicians demanding algorithmic transparency from US social media available in the EU? Or can Elon Musk freely promote the far right in Europe algorithmicly, with no pushback from Europe?

Import of pipeline natural gas into the EU halved after the closure of the Ukrainian pipeline.

The total volume has halved.

The #Turkstream pipeline through Turkey and Bulgaria remains active, serving mainly #Hungary and #Serbia (pre-war contracts) but:
- #Bulgaria increased the transit fee
- #Ukraine is trying to attack the pumping station in #russia
- #Turkey wants to create a new company to buy gas from russia and sell to the #EU
