Haven’t shared a lot of my #research on here yet, but #today I’m sharing an #openaccess paper I’m particularly #proud of 🥹. We used #expertopinion to develop a #cumulativeeffects model of the #multiplestressors affecting the #Arctic seabird Northern Fulmar. #fishing, #climatechange, #oil and #mining as well as resulting #boat traffic, #noise pollution, and #contaminants including #plastic are big contributors. I had a nice week at #iaglr23 Hosting sessions on #microplastics and #wetlands as #keystone ecosystems. #toronto had great weather and the trees bloomed. The lieutenant governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell spoke, calling for increased support for #GreatLakes #science. We need a decadal science plan and we need the #usa and #canada to fund it.
Last #game we played #today was #BusyBusyBakeShop. In this dice-based #cooperativegame you roll to determine which #donut 🍩 to add in an attempt to make a row of 4 before the cheeky mouse can steal 3! The tongs are a nice #dexteritygame element. The patterns allow for some #strategy but fun with 4 y olds regardless of whether they strategize or not. #parenting #boardgames #kids #rainyday
Another good #boardgame we played #today was #wildcraft - the #herbalism co-operative game. I thought the 4 y olds would be too young, but they liked being able to use the helper cards and matching the plant symbols to the trouble cards to solve problems. #cooperation #games #cooperative #plants #rainyday
If you’re #kids enjoy telling #stories, eeboo has a great #game called Fairytale Story Elements where you spin to get your choice of villains, heroes, magical helpers and objects. This was a great treasure we inherited from @jjvenky. Not sure if it is still for sale, but a really popular creative game in our house. #boardgames
#today it is raining again. Time for some #boardgames to try an entertain these bored kiddos. Which are your #family favourites for young #kids? We like #orchard, #hootOwlHoot, and #pengaloo. Games with tactile pieces get the kids most engaged. So dragon’s breath is a big hit too. Lots to love by #Haba ,#PeaceableKingdom , and #blueorangegames
Thinking about the death of #darkness. Cities are harsh habitats, plagued by many types of pollution, but #lightpollution is one of the most insidious. Especially during migration seasons, light pollution kills #birds , but it also harms their insect food and messes with plant hormones. The pulse of light and #dark synchronizes our biological clocks and light #pollution confuses this #rhythm. Please, turn off your porch lights. Don’t illuminate empty rooms. Save $ and save the dark.
There are so many reasons to love #wetlands , but #today I am appreciating a joyful chorus of #springpeepers welcoming #spring. In case it hasn’t reached you yet, enjoy this little #video.
#wetlands in urban areas keep us in touch with the seasons and remind us to care for the wildlife in our #environment.

Important conversations about the Laurentian #greatlakes today. If it were a separate country, the #GreatLakes basin would be the third largest #economy in the world and freshwater is its fuel. As #climatechange makes #water scarce, people will seek refuge in the basin. Time is ticking - we must plan & prepare. #SciencePlan
When #life gets busy and stressful, it’s MORE important to prioritize #selfcare. My #yoga commitment waned a bit with some deadlines last week and I missed 4 consecutive practices 😅. But back at it #today and signed up to try #noom to log and keep building #healthy habits. I struggle to find motivation for home workouts and miss the #gym but no way would I #workout in a building full of unmasked heavy breathers! 😷 How do you find #motivation for healthy habits?
I set a goal for myself to do #yoga every day in March. I haven’t totally managed to meet that goal, but #today I did my 12th practice in 16 days and I’m feeling good about it. Don’t be scared to set #ambitious #goals for yourself, and don’t beat yourself up if you don’t meet them. Be gentle to yourselves!

“When I grow up I’ll be a #mechanic so I can work in a #garage and #fix things that are broken,” says four year old Robert. “When I grow up,” replies his twin Richard, “I will be a #microphone so I can make everything #loud LOUD LOUD!”
…
“Me too. I’m going to be a microphone and the sound will come in my feet and go out my mouth!” reconsiders Robert.
