Series: My guilty pleasure is RoboTech, even if I know I should be watching the original stuff it was cobbled together from. I might re-watch Captain Harlock, but can't get my hands on it.

Definitely cringey with today's eyes: Captain Future, which has a cult following in Germany. Wouldn't spend a minute on that, even if it was one of my first contacts with Anime as a young human.

@olives It is, by all means. Sadly, they seem to be dragging the 'merely conservative' CDU into the morass with them. It tries to woo its former clientele back from the right fringe by echoing the rethoric. Nothing good ever came from that, given the choice, people will always go for the original, i.e. AfD.

@olives You forgot anti-vax and climate change denial, or you might have seen that already as part of "like the Republicans". Anyway, you've got the right idea.

@jon Is PZB the only limiting factor for a higher Vmax? That should be relatively easy to retrofit. But if they have to change the curve radii or cant, that probably won't happen.

@jon I remember very well how Hartmut Mehdorn tried to make reservations mandatory on long-distance trains back in the early 2000's. He was roasted alive by press and public alike because it was deemed a "fundamental right to jump on any train at any time" and the concept was dropped within weeks.

I wonder if Richard Lutz tried the same today, would he fare any better 🤔

@jon Not sure if it's still the case, but he used to sit on the German Green's Mobility Council, afaik. Thought I noticed his handwriting when the party started to promote the breaking up of Deutsche Bahn, which is mainly dysfunctional because of being kicked around for many decades by politics, not because of too little competition. And here I thought neo-liberalism ("the market will fix it") was only for the FDP...

@gpowerf I have been thinking this about as long as I have realized that my life span is finite. It's a bit like the feeling you get packing your stuff on the last day of a rainy vacation and seeing that there will be glorious sunshine from tomorrow on.

Didn't get to taking a closer look at the Steam Deck yet, but I'm reading good things about it. But since Covid made working from home the norm for me, I don't spend much time in transit anymore, and since my Switch is gathering dust already (the Hades flash was while on vacation), I probably won't get it.
