#TIL The C preprocessor is actually Turing-complete if you try hard enough. There's even the Order programming language, a functional programming language built entirely upon the C99 preprocessor, with first-class anonymous functions, partial application, tail recursion, reflection, arbitrary-precision arithmetic, and more! https://github.com/rofl0r/order-pp/tree/master/example
Its author also found there were only two C compilers in the world that could run Order correctly, one was GCC, another was the Wave C++ preprocessor library, everything else violated C99 (and even C89) in some ways.

I used to not care much about which words people use re: discord, but with the twitter/masto meta, the amount of people who are truly convinced that discord servers are decentralized and people who go "oh like discord" as soon as they see anything decentralized, even when it is in no way even slightly similar to discord, has pretty much convinced me that discord calling their guilds "servers" was very much a deliberate choice, and long term, a disaster for the average person's perception of the internet

Just to give you an idea of how bad the whole "we block anyone who doesnt block who we block" has gotten, someone sent me this:

I would **love** to give M.A a script that goes over all the instances in the fediverse and alerts them of every instance that doesnt follow the exact same block list as them and spit it out. I'm sure they will realize they have to block 99% of the fediverse... its getting laughable at this point.

@rybaz same but this one is more about legal issues. Twitter is subject an FTC consent decree. *All* top people in charge of compliance with it just quit. This is a HUGE financial risk because twitter is now just winging it on the issue.
