How to learn Linux.

1. Install it
2. Try some stuff
3. Screw it up
4. Blow up the server.
5. Reinstall
6. Go to step 1

This is what I've been doing, starting out with FreeBSD in 1996, and then onto Linux

Works for me!

Gonna keep this local meme going. So, should we vote on this inner_drawer change or what?

Tooting from @maartje 's Mastodon 3.11 for Workgroups! Though not sure if the parsing weirdness is my poorly setup WebOne or not

If your podcast is hosted on @Castopod your audience can listen to your episodes from @Mastodon but also like, share and comment them!

Oh wait, its more like centuple + a triguntuple more.

BookWyrm is the Fediverse's answer to Amazon's GoodReads.

BookWyrm helps you keep track of what you're reading, discover new books and publish reviews of books you've read.

You can follow them at @bookwyrm and find out more at:

joinbookwyrm.com

There's a list of servers to join at:

joinbookwyrm.com/instances

There's a built-in book catalogue powered by Wikidata in collaboration with @inventaire

BookWyrm is part of the Fediverse and accounts on BookWyrm servers can be followed by people from Mastodon etc, for example @mouse is the BookWyrm founder's account.

Anyone (except corporations) can start their own BookWyrm server by installing the software, and there's a managed hosting service for people who join the top tier on Patreon (patreon.com/posts/64768354).

Hey @elonmusk

buy discord next plz i want people to migrate on matrix.org instead of using that shitty data miner

Because people don't know that instance admins actually have *real* power on the Fediverse, here's the many things they can do:

1. Ban you
2. Silence you
3. Automatically force all your posts behind a CW
4. Delete your posts
5. De-federate the instance you're on

But also, they can do pretty much do whatever they like -- they own their instance. ๐Ÿงต

I'm not sure if I should be happy for Rovelli in his apparent acceptance and fear lacking approach to death, or to be skeptical at his authenticity (final chapter), The Order of Time.

From joinmastodon:

Active moderation against racism, sexism, homophobia and transphobia

Well, any definitions for “active moderation”? Server moderators are not law enforcement. They can’t chase those people 7x24 unless you pay taxes to them.

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

But heck, you can’t break other laws because of your freedom of speech. I think that’s a piece of common knowledge, since it’s unlikely to be a necessity. And that cannot be your excuse for committing harassment, discrimination, etc.

Definition of necessity: A defense that permits a person to act in a criminal manner when an emergency situation, not of the person’s own creation compels the person to act in a criminal manner to avoid greater harm from occurring.

What’s the f*cking wrong with 2022? Why do people keep asking for a utopia? Could you just control yourself?

If you really want someone constantly and actively moderate for you, then welcome to China. The government will like you, a lot. And a free tip: read 1984 and Brave New World before you move there.

Polls are dumb.

What should I finish reading after I close this laptop?

@HikerFromVA hmmm. Not sure if u should migrate. What u feeling
