There are two kinds of people who cry out against censorship when it's used against them:

Those who care about others and don't want the same thing to happen to anyone else.

Selfish people who just want the harassment and persecution to stop.

Lib Dems just asked me why I am not renewing my membership....😂

Aaaah peace has come to the fediverse finally as mastodon has blocked everyone who isnt mastodon.

It has come to my attention that there are those on Mastodon who think that anyone who doesn't agree with their politics should be cast out of the federation.

Please stand up for Freedom of Speech.

True Freedom of Speech means you will have to deal with the fact that not everyone thinks the same way as you and will therefor come across views that either make you happy or extremly angry.

Communication is the key to making the world a better place and the only way that progress can be made.

If you lock people out becase they don't agree with you, you are only hurting those you claim to care about because those with extreme views will continue to speak, with the only difference being that no one will challenge them.

Arrogance is the biggest threat to our society.

After hearing that Feminist Current interview, I'm even more filled with admiration and gratitude for @mk @alex and @spinster. They have created and launched Spinster under some pretty challenging circumstances! Thank you for using your powers for good! And thanks for introducing me to the fediverse concept. I share your admiration for Sheila Jeffreys!

A comment on echo chambers & the Fediverse:
---

We firmly agree that echo-chambers are not productive for moving mainstream dialogue forward, and there are already plenty of places where rad fem women may join together in private conversation. Spinster, rather than a private chatroom, is more similar to Twitter - it is an open platform where anyone is welcome as long as they follow our rules. Some of our users disagree with this decision, and that's okay.

From a technical perspective, Spinster is part of the Fediverse, a de-centralized way to do social media which allows different servers to federate with each other through a protocol called "activity pub". There are currently 4,529 servers in the Fediverse - each with their own rules, themes, political alignment, etc, which contain 4,443,706 total users at the time of writing this. On Spinster, we already federate with 761 of these servers, including the biggest server - gab.com, which contains over a million users itself -- many of whom vehemently disagree with us on almost everything. This means that users on those servers will be able to see and interact with our conversations. The number of servers with which we federate grows every day as our reach increases. We chose this technology as our platform specifically to avoid creating an echo chamber.

Hmm how come when I try to follow my normal account from here I'm hit with an "awaiting approval message?"
