@bernardrentier when you say "new", you're referring to the past 80 years right?
@HagbardCeline @chrispickard mmm theres a lot of metallurgy STEM fans here, although I'm a developer so I vote #rust, they can have #ironoxide
@chs42 oh yeah, I had it backwards, sunrise in the east, so it is pointed North. But when I flew to Beijing from New York, I went over the north pole crossing Russia and the Arctic sea. I would think an attack from Russian mainland would follow a similar trajectory. Which means it's actually pointed in the right direction. Although the most likely point of origin I would speculate would be a submarine in the deep Atlantic. Hey look I'm sorry for trying to figure this out, I'm stupid. It's an awesome photo regardless of it's direction.
@Paulos_the_fog the brain fog was a well documented symptom but strangely enough wasn't commonly documented until vaccines were introduced, the pharma companies blamed it on new variants and the media blamed it on the vaccines. But there's been no conclusive data yet as of the actual cause. I'm rare cases it stays long term. This was actually in the news like a year and a half ago, but it disappeared off the media radar, cause COVID isn't selling as many advertisements.
Glad you're feeling better though.
@jonjojojon they got a presence on Alibaba, it's cheap enough to buy samples from them, and message them directly for the cad files that match the samples ;) then you can compare the physical to the digital, and use that as a baseline to start a new design 👍
More so than the domain, I hope the students have enough permission access on the servers so they can deploy and manage the Mastadon containers. But it's #Stanford, I would imagine the students are well empowered there. If it works, the University would definitely be also setting an example and benchmark for it's rivals. That would be fantastic.
@chs42 but.. shouldn't it be pointed east and not north? If that's a sunset, that bad boy is pointed at Canada right?
Today's image is a Nike #missile at the former launch site NY-56 in Sandy Hook, NJ. These surface to air missiles were supposed to protect #newyorkcity during the early phase of the cold war. #airdefense
@Baley are those diced chunks of melted brie?!
@jonjojojon oh this is pretty open ended.. totally depends where it's gonna get printed, what you're gonna solder on to it, how and the order of what your gonna solder and connect. My recommendation would be start by making yourself a smorgasbord of components that you can test with a multimeter easily, like super basic, but comprehensive. Make paths for your power and ground, look up each individual components requirements like, 1 capacitor, and plan the paths to the gate, the posi and ground, then move on to a resistor, then a diode, then a transistor, a relay, a transformer, an IC. Don't try to make them work together yet, just work individually. Print a few boards from wherever you're gonna order them from, mistakes happen. Next step is do a new board but start combing components to observe their interactions. Once you figure all that out and understand how each component does it's job. You can start designing more complex boards that have paths on the front and back so they can cross each other. So basically most PCB boards have an insulation layer (back), a conductive path layer (backside circuit paths), insulation layer (middle, has holes to connect front and/or back circuit paths using solder and pins), a conductive path layer (frontside circuit paths), insulation layer (front). Most basic circuits don't even need both sides.
Most PCB printing companies have predefined board sizes and shapes. Just think of the conductive layers as wires that connect the components. So when you put holes in the insulation layers, remember to make them slightly larger than the conductive layer holes in your design so when you solder, the pins have good connection to the conductive layers.
Also, larger PCB printing companies will have a few templates they can send you for #kicad that match their printing capabilities.
@earthjay ironically in sentry mode.

Happy Thursday dude.
@MrScoville everyone tells me German is a hard language, especially for pronunciation. I started learning Arabic for a few years and found out I was learning a super useless dialect and gave up.
@khadija They are heavily focused on politics and that's fine, and their opinion pieces lean left. That's fine too, that's why it's called an opinion piece. Where I'm concerned is in the lack of citation on event reporting. That makes me a bit cautious too. Here's an example of what I'm talking about. 99% of all mass media reports COVID statistics from Johns Hopkins Medical university. That's a big name, a name people can trust, yet if you get hit by a bus and die but you're COVID positive, that's counted as a COVID death. There's always going to be flaws in information, I get that. But that's alleviated by aggregation of information from many sources, and providing sources for the data. That's real journalism. I would say if you work in politics that TNR is a decent way of understanding a bit more of what's changing politically. At my level of work, I understand that political news is irrelevant, because if I don't like something, I know voting will only contribute a microscopic influence. But I have a different tool, I can call my clients, illustrate the problem, they call their lobbyists into a their next board meeting, they intern shift the financial backing for the projects that are supporting my problem. And in a years time, the structures have changed and maybe the problem is still there but people will get out of my way. I don't see much on TNR that gives me concrete data enough to change my vote, or email some people who hold sway.
On a side note, the newspaper I just wrote you, and sorry for that 😶 should also illustrate a larger problem. My vote is equal, but my connections are ridiculously more powerful than my vote. That means what appears to be a democracy really isn't. Look, I know enough to know that I'm not the good guy in our global situation, I'm not the villain either though. I just try to keep a bubble around my enterprise that's fair. And it keeps getting harder and harder to discern the right path to keep it stable. Oh by the way, if you like the TNR and want to make real changes.. I'll share my recipe, save your money for a while, buy yourself a ticket to the metgala or the redcrossgala, or a mixer related to weapons or energy. Go talk to everybody, they're all senators, congressman, celebrities, fortune500 CEOs. Tell em all what you're up to, a few will be fascinated and give you their contact info. Most won't. Sure the ticket will cost more than a vacation through Europe. But taking a vacation in Europe won't further yourself in life, or help you shape the world more the way you want it. I know, sounds crazy, and it makes me seem like one of the villains out there. It's sorta how it works. Sorta how it always has probably.
So someone messaged me privately and asked how absolute this is.. like would we block an instance calling for genocide. I feel my response is import to reiterate here, so here it is:
Its not just about the authorities, it is about the people whose lives are at risk by that call to genocide having the right to see those posts and use that information to look out for their own safety... If someone is doxed, they should know, if someone is threatened, they should know, and they should be able to take action.
Someone saying violent things online doesnt guarantee some police officer will meander by and take them down. The law only tends to get involved once someone is reported, and sometimes not even then. No one will be reporting a site if no one can see or know it is there.
The question is, if someone is being physically threatened and having their life in jeopardy how are you helping them by blocking the privileges of the **victim** and disallowing the victim the right to see the threat placed against them?
In short, I refuse to take away rights from the victim simply because there is a violent bad actor out there. If the victim doesn't want to see it they simply need to import the block list and the problem is solved for them, so why not keep the power in the victims hands?
@birv2 I have a software development firm which is expanding into hardware. The vast majority of my hires never attended university because the skills that are required these days aren't commonly taught. Strangely enough I worked for IBM for 2 years and when they recruited me they actually requested me to drop out of University. Ironically IBM is one of my customers now. Project-based learning is fantastic, it's the right way to go but avoid these caveats sir.
1) step by step tutorial projects are bad, anyone can complete them without learning the "why"
2) step by step challenge projects are excellent. Treating each step as an individual project that seeks the most efficient path to target, also prevents research on solutions from 2002, for problems from 2022
3) aim to be comprehensive, mathematics are more relevant than ever.
4) avoid libraries and frameworks at all cost.
5) the CS field changes faster than the tides, reading and understanding documentation is a skill that should be honed at every step.
6) don't fear exercising complex project targets, while ui is becoming minimal, ux is allowing that through automation. Automation is complex, yet necessary for growth.

Welcome to Qoto :)
Can I get some unbiased news source recommendations? I'm down to Reuters as my only source. I'm not conservative or liberal, I'm more or less indifferent to societies causes. But I like to stay informed without having some bold headline trying to trigger emotions instead of informing me on current events.
@freemo I didn't come from Twitter but what drew me to the platform is one of the things driving migrants nuts. I like the servers have their own personalities. I love academics and intelligent banter so I've fallen in love with qoto immediately. Migrants seem to have an awkward adjustment to the idea of destination oriented posts and timelines. I think it's brilliant. But I still owe the migration credit cause I read about it in Reuters.

And maybe one more..
Let's see..
I wanna make a good one for the last one..
😈
#savageRedundancy :
#savageBrit : made tea with 4 tea bags in room temperature water and stirring for 40 mins.
#savageAsian : made 2 instant noodles in 2 rice cookers.
#savageYankee : fires 2 guns inside the house because it gets the family out of bed and awake with no coffee necessary
#savageLatino : espresso grounds get stronger with age. Why clean and change em? Ever?
#savageFrenchman : Expired cheese? No, gourmet cheese? No. Add more milk, it's a sauce? That expired? It's cheese again.
#savageIndian : Moves to Britain, out savageBrits' the native Brits. Gets out Britained by the savagePakistanis though.
#savageTurk : Glass cleaner + cuban coffee = Turkish coffee, which is still used to clean glass.
#savageMastadonian : introduces all of his friends to "Tooter". And all his enemies to Facebook.
#savageMechanic : brake fluid, transmission fluid, motor oil, windshield de-icing fluid, all interchangable
#savageProgrammer : for loop? Nooo twin callbacks that call each other. With a return that calls the main function if a condition is met.
#savagePhysicist : spends entire life observing things closer and closer, then farther and farther away, to realize they're about the same. Wins nobel anyways.
#savageMathematician : divide by zero? Don't be stupid, zero can't exist in the first place. That's why it's null.
#savageJedi : masters the force, uses it to create random religions on random planets by pretending to be a god. Realizes he probably could of been one, but jokes on him, sith killed him first.
#savageTimeTraveler : sends the machine by itself infinitely forwards just to see if it ever pops up again in the past. It does. So he sends it infinitely backwards to see if it pops up again in the future.. and plot twist, it doesn't. But it would have had it not collided with itself on the way back and knocked the keys out under Napoleons sofa.
#savageSchrodengersCat : bites Schrodinger, knocks the radioactive material on the floor, and runs out of the house. Which spooks Schrodinger's dog, who runs in the house and laps up the radioactive fluid, licks Schrodinger, and kills the cat. Who's a good boy?
#savageLiteraryPHDstudent : writes thesis about thesis for PHD candidacy, debunks efficacy of thesis. Which proved thesis were effective after all, and so he was awarded his PHD for getting it taken away before he got it.
#savageAstronomer : downloads NASA photos, crops and sharpens them in Photoshop, submits them back to NASA.
#savageNASA : repeats the process of the savageAstronomer and uploads to archives. Hasn't spent money on new Telescope for 60 years.
#savageVegan : advocates for cannibalism, cause hey, all that would be left are vegans right? RIGHT?! Unless the cannibals eat all the vegetables to starve out the vegans, so which dies out first the vegan or the cannibal? Ironically neither would care about the chicken or the egg. But if either had, would they have their current paradox?
#savageDinosour : changed pronunciation of RhINO Saw-rus to Rhinoceros 🦏 to avoid extinction. Is still suspicious why nobodies noticed it's a dinosaur, hence their facial expressions. Our maybe it ponders if mammoths ever got elephantiasis, cave paintings may have been to scale.
#savageSavages : domesticated other savages via civilization, but could only lead them using savagery. They called it politics to avoid extinction also. Coincidentally also like the rhinoceros, they leave some of the largest piles of excrement around the world.
#savageSchizophrenic : Becomes an actor? Nope, becomes the role, paid handsomely too. Commits suicide and gets paid even more. Because hey, that's commitment to the role.
#savageIrish : identical to savageBrit but replace the room temperature tea, with room temperature beer. For breakfast lunch and dinner and tea time, and snack time.
#savageScottish : == #scotchish.. mmm scotch
#savageGerman : deprecated May 7th 1945.. due to the savageJapanese being microwaved into weebdom.
#savageItalian : typically born in New York, but different than savageYankees in that they fire their guns in the evening, and outside the house, and have better reasons for doing so. Unless they run into each other at school.. oh.. that's why that happens.
If you've managed to get this far, you've probably realized the #savageRedundancy list contains amendments that make many of the savage definitions redundant, thus making this second list not redundant after all, and after all, that's just plain #savage.
Anytime in the future, you experience #britfails and your upset about it, you can refer back to this list and smile, cause it's not just you, you're not alone. The whole world has #britfails too.

@krrw theoretically God could also the past, we wouldn't notice cause or recollections would automatically propogate. #justSTEMthings
But I know, that's not the point, and yes, I like the quote.
