@skanman Great ! I agree of course.
However I was not talking about data in general, but about publicly funded research data, which should be commons.

A headline this morning, before they changed it:

> crisis shocks investors

No it doesn't. Not one bit.

A shower thought on my shower thoughts.

Do I really toot on Mastadon in the shower? Of course. I've tooted in the shower my whole life. Mastadon just makes it more productive. I hope this brightens someone's day. 😂

2am shower thought:

The "observer effect" in physics, plays an equally important role in psychology. There probably isn't many correlations though. By this I'm thinking longitudinal correlations. Can you think of any?

Good morning / afternoon / evening from Sassy the Ayrshire. "hhhhaaayyyy"

Shameful confession:
When I hear "Mastadon", my brain conjures the Power Rangers. I don't want it to. But I can't stop it.

@skanman it's easy to imagine "if they did this then that would overcome it" scenarios. They are significantly harder to implement from a practical perspective. Take a look at the version numbers for fedi servers. Even if a new protocol was agreed upon (no easy feat), implemented, and everyone upgraded to the newest version, implementations would still be open source and trivial to "detect".

going through the protocol definitions it looks like you'd need two firewall rules to effectively disable the activitypub protocol. Denying anything with content matching either "/\/@\w+\/inbox/" or "/\/@\w+\/outbox/" regex. That'd disable inbound and outbound messaging across whatever network boundaries you controlled :blobshrug:

Proxocracy - Voting on people who vote on decisions.

Politicians live in a democracy, citizens live in a proxocracy. Politicians have more freedom than citizens. So much for checks and balances.

I thought a motorcycle ride in a sunshower would be a cinematic surreal experience. It was, but was it worth a flu? Tbd

So if you are interested in #geopolitics , everything related to foreign affairs, war, peace, international affairs, international politics etc, send your news, update to @geopolitics , a boost would be nice.

@insidequantum I'm just a noob but I absolutely love Quantum physics and energy. I made DIY optical tweezers last year and I'm still amazed that I'm able to learn the mechanics, read journals, and use that information to fine time, and experiment on my own, and contribute new data. I look forward greatly to your posts:)

I'm so sorry, I couldn't resist.

@voutlook Just a heads up that a Quote isn't quite the same as a response. If you intended to reply to them, the Reply feature would be better suited.

Restating your position is not compelling argumentation for your position.

It's truly dismaying how many possibilities I've noticed there have been to say this to people since I started watching for it. Try it. See how many people in conversation do that.

Example:
Someone recently told me that they wanted to see a particular movie. I asked them why. They said it looked interesting.

"Yes, I gathered that it interested you when you said you wanted to see it. That's what that means. My question was about why it interests you."

I can't tell if this is a recent development or I've just been noticing it recently (like the last few years).

Wondering if there are any thoughts on the matter out there.
