I notice that in the past I created another #account on @frayoshi@mograph.social which I would like to move to this one.
One #problem: the other account is like 20 minutes newer than this and more over, I'm not actually "moving from" that one, but want just to redirect like if I was moving from there.. Not sure if this is the correct procedure.. I was going to delete it, but then I read that the account handle will no longer be usable and I want to keep my doors open :blob3c:

@frayoshi @frayoshi@mograph.social
Usually I'd say 'use the move feature' since that can be undone easily. But I see that mograph.social seems to be blocking qoto.org, so that won't work.
Best you can do is just put in your profile description that you're active on qoto.org.

@frayoshi Some instances block other instances if the other instances federate with yet other instances that would break their rules.
It doesn't make much sense because anything we would boost from the rule-breakers wouldn't reach them anyway because they get blocked.
But I see in their blocking reason references to kiwifarms and gab, but they have not been federating in the Fediverse for a while now, so it's an ancient relic from the past.
@frayoshi No problem, hope your time in the Fediverse network will be nice and smooth. 😊
It takes a special level of toxicity to block someone for politely approaching you and trying to mend fences and address concerns... What are ya gonna do though, my letter to them could not have been more respectful. The way I see when an instance is this level of toxicity its probably best they blocked you.
@frayoshi
Not much that can be done about it I'm afraid. There are a lot of small instances like that unfortunately. :(
If you want to be able to follow the posts of those few, you can still subscribe to them (but they won't be able to see your comments).
I'm afraid you'll have to discuss with your buddies what to do if you want to be able to interact with them. Maybe one of you two move, maybe both move. I wish you good luck in trying to reconnect with them!
@mandaroza We must've missed it. November was crazy busy with so many people joining.
@mandaroza But I think that was already answered before, when I look back?
@mandaroza No, that Q itself didn't get a response. But if you look back in the thread, you can see frayoshi talking about mograph.social, right? Qoto is indeed blocked by mograph.social.
@trinsec it was mastodonapp.uk that I was trying to connect with, but they cannot access qoto.org
Well, that thread was about mograph.social, so we wouldn't have known how to correctly answer your question to begin with. There is always a server blocked by some other server somewhere on the Fediverse.
But if you go to the About page of mastodonapp.uk which you can find here: https://mastodonapp.uk/about you'll see when you scroll beyond the server rules to 'Moderated Servers', that qoto is indeed blocked by them.
Including the reason they gave. Which, as you can see, is not quite correct as Qoto does not allow for hate speech and is actively moderated.
Sadly, this is something we cannot help with, as our latest attempt to contact admins of other servers that blocked us had quite a big backlash.
Hope this answers your question?
@trinsec Thankyou, the problem is diving into Mastodon is like entering a river with a strong current, you have no idea of where you are, as soon as you are in, you are swept away. I assumed it would be easier to find my way around. Thankyou for the links.
No problem. The decentralized nature of the Fediverse has its advantages and disadvantages. If you go into the technicalities, the learning curve starts to be a bit steep. For 'just using it', it's alright, until you start to wonder why some friends can't be found. Then, yes, we get into the nastier details of blocking and all that fun stuff.
Sorry. 😓
@frayoshi@qoto.org @trinsec@qoto.org @freemo@qoto.org wow that was rude af. another reason why fedi would be better if everyone was on their own personal instance
No one can ban you if you run your own server. No one can force you to adhere to their instance wide block list if you are in charge..
The downside is you have no foice as no one federates with you and your federation footprint is dictated by your size as an instance.
Yes, but there is a difference.
If your instance admin bans you you loose all your post history, cant transfer to anotther instance and, at least under your old identity, are blocked from ALL servers and all your followers.
On a single user instance when someone or a group of instances block you thenn only those instances block you. You can always just migrate and get a fresh start (perhaps even to a new single user instance) or stay where you are and be blocked only by a subset of the fediverse and continue to operate.
Honestly most of that is a nonissue for me. The new people are all a complete joy, serious, we havent had tto ban not one bad actor yet, its extraordinary! the costs are not even noticeable for me (I am very lucky). The only issue tht ever crops up is the toxicity of a few nasty instances... some faux good guys who throw around the nazi label, and some legit bad actors who are wanna be nazis, swastika and all... Luckily the toxic instances are a minority here on the fediverse, but as the admin I deal with them constantly and it is draining.
@Biggles@qoto.org @freemo@qoto.org @bolapara@qoto.org @frayoshi@qoto.org @trinsec@qoto.org the person that made this thread literally just got banned off an instance for asking a harmless question about moderation. were they not being a "decent person"? on my own instance if i get blocked i simply move on with my life but this person is going to have to start over somewhere else when they didn't even do anything wrong.
@freemo@qoto.org @trinsec@qoto.org @Biggles@qoto.org @bolapara@qoto.org @frayoshi@qoto.org yea i got that, i just don't think it's reasonable to say that if you are decent you don't benefit from being on your own instance. i mean your instance gets blocked just for federating with other instances so im sure you understand that every person's idea of decent varies
@emma Of course, I dont think anyone was saying that all people on single user instances are decent people... at least I wasnt.
@frayoshi @trinsec @freemo - stange - the twitter-mastodon retweeter at https://crossposter.masto.donte.com.br/ has qoto.org on a block list too - i asked the admin why, but got no reply - very odd.
noticed too @cain_rob !
I guess I'm just gonna host the program, maybe an even better solution ^^
@frayoshi sounds cool. was considering same myself. bit of a hassle to setup though i think.
Its either a lack of understanding or intentional misinformation. But its a common trope.
Basically many instances are under the false misconception that if they block a server, and a server they dontn block boosts content from it, then it can be seen by their server (or vice versa)...
The reality is that is false (we have tested it a few times and verified it is untrue)... you can only see a boosted post if you can see the original post. This is clear because boosting doesnt replicate the content, it just links it. Plus like i said we tested it.
Glad I am on #qoto @trinsec , feels much more welcoming and warm
