conundrum of the moment: my db takes forms that receive approvals. When any approval at all has been provided, my query is lopping off certain json fields of the form they entered. The data's still in the db; it's just failing to come back in the query. Only when an approval exists for the submission. On the plus side, it makes it real easy to see which has no approvals yet...

@b6hydra you motivated me to look up bitwarden . how are you set up with it?

I'm generally perturbed by 2fa. Everyone is doing it these days, with the result that we are even more tied to our phones. It is just trading one evil, which people fear, for one which they haven't yet learned to fear.

This makes a nice elevator pitch from a very accomplished Java expert, Brian Goetz: "Clojure is one of the very few production-ready JVM languages that isn't simply trying to be a better Java." youtu.be/GedrGWu16_I

Being an ethically-minded technologist is very much like being an ethical rhetorician. The point is to expertly know the biases, power-plays, and deceptions common in the mis-use of the field. Big Tech is like the Powers Politick in this way.

Who else has programming creep into their idle thoughts? Today, I consideree peeling boiled eggs like refactoring code.

There are times in when bisection gets relievingly lucky. Such it was when I found out that my 6m old version of Marginalia was causing emacs to freeze on displaying the variable list. Though it had caused a week of pain, once I got down to init bisection it only took half an hour.

The Alternative Big O notation:

O(1) = O(yeah)
O(log n) = O(nice)
O(n) = O(k)
O(n²) = O(my)
O(2ⁿ) = O(no)
O(n!) = O(mg!)
O(n!*n) = O(rly?)

The trouble with this Planck that has been my main keyboard for a few months is that I always fat-finger keys. Which is weird, because my finger are not fat and the keys are not small. I think it's probably due to the Dvorak, perhaps combined with the ortholinear. All I want for Christmas is 99% accuracy at speed on this keyboard...

In a better society honesty would matter more.

I wished for a long time Windows was more like Linux. With Windows 11, my dream is finally becoming true: I cannot get HDMI sound to work on Windows 11 to save my life.

3. Clojure, The Essential Reference rb.gy/oblheo

The 3rd reco is NEW. The detail, approach and sheer knowledge dropped is heroic🤯🙇‍♂️🙏 Thanks @reborg

Time for some reading...

@quoll it's easy to miss :) see clojure.org/guides/comparators for like 100x more info than you want or need on comparators

TIL that clojure.lang.AFunction implements java.util.Comparator. That's every function in Clojure. I used to reify to create comparators, and now I feel like an idiot

Ah, the joys of working with pure data!

I was trying to do a complicated, customized, rendering system to Chlorine. It was SLOW as HELL.

Then, I thought: why can't I combine lots of hiccup structures in a single one?

Surprise: code now runs in 20% of the original time!

Given a phone number, finding the carrier or land-line status of that number should be free info, right? Why are there so many free-just-kidding rackets out there to get you this info? Anyone know a clean way to get ground-truth on phone-number carrier info?
