I didn't take this photo but I was with my husband when he did. It was breathtaking up on Stenbury Down on the Isle of Wight, watching the mist roll in at sunset. The sheep were surprised to see us and for once the weather did what we'd hoped it would do! #SheepofMastodon
A few recommendations for life on Mastodon:
1) Follow anyone you think looks potentially interesting; you can always unfollow later, and they may lead you to new people via boosted posts.
2) Boost posts you think are worthy, so others can discover new content.
3) Don't obsess on replicating your Twitter follows on Mastodon; let it be its own experience, and grow it organically. Obvs follow anyone you miss from Twitter, but this isn't a 1:1 replacement; have fun, follow your instincts.
Hi everyone, time for an #Introduction: I'm a weather and climate scientist working at the #ECMWF office in Bonn, Germany.
My research is concerned with improving subseasonal-to-seasonal forecasts and climate reanalyses through better observations and modelling of the ocean and sea ice.
Looking forward to talking about science and maybe other topics on here 👋
Tusky release plan
If you want to help, install Nightly or opt into beta. Report bugs, either here or on GitHub. I'm especially interested in everything that does not work in new features or in regressions (=something that worked in 19 but does no longer work). Please include the exact Tusky version, your Android version and the connected instance in all bug reports and be as detailed as possible. Screenshots and videos usually help a lot.
Just responded to a tweet asking if LaTeX can be embedded in tweets
so I responded
If you join Mastodon, the this is already implemented on https://qoto.org/
Fingers crossed we may get another user.
Every year, students in my CS 488 Software Development course work in teams of 4-8 to build software for an external customer. If you are in the Portland, Oregon area, that customer could be you!
Last year's projects included:
* A video game to teach people about earthquake preparedness.
* Creative animation software for an artist.
* A tool to help a faculty member organize course content.
Do you (or someone you know in a local organization) have a computational problem for which you need a piece of software? Let me know and maybe we can help you out.
WHAT YOU GET
Free custom software! This comes with some caveats:
* We usually produce stand-alone desktop applications. Other things are possible, but I'd prefer to stay within this realm.
* These are mostly seniors working on their first large piece of software. I make no guarantees as to quality; you might get something that you can use to do real work, but you might just get a fragile "proof of concept". We use an agile development technique that regularly reexamines goals, priorities, and expectations; this leads to a good probability that we'll have something working by the end of the semester, even if some of your more optimistic features have to be dropped.
* There probably won't be anyone to maintain your program after the semester is over. You might be able to hire some juniors to do more work on it.
WHAT YOU GIVE (We'll work with you on all of these things)
* Create an initial description of your project.
* Create and maintain a list of "user stories" (things that you want your program to do).
* Commit to meet with the students every other week to discuss progress and priorities. This must be a firm commitment; it's a disaster for me and the students and me if a customer flakes out.
Please boost and let me know ASAP if you're interested!

@alienghic
Yes, and yes he also despised Moslems. I didn't talk much to him, but I observed quite a bit because Groups were designed such that it felt rude to leave if someone put you in it.
Elon Musk tells Twitter staff to work long hours or leave

My take on some of this.
Over here in the UK employers are meant to look after employees mental health,
So a note to Elon Musk this sort of thing from Musk will do the total opposite.
A toxic or bad work environment drives the best people away, and deters the best people from working for you.
A happy, relaxed, supported workforce is more productive than a stressed, tired, disillusioned work force.
Once on that slope there is little going back,

@zleap Yes. There's CLI and TUI. CLI basically means you're looking at a shell prompt, while TUI means there's a whole interface built within the terminal (think vim).
