I'm confused by the people I see with their business addresses at their home addresses on Google Maps. How and why?

@dantheclamman oh, I get it. NASA's public education and outreach mission is foundational, and this kind of thing is relatable to the public regardless of whether it was scientifically important.

It's just that fault-finding is my speciality 😁

Awesome stuff. They're making artificial retinas. They've done some of their research and product development on the International Space Station: the microgravity environment allows for fewer defects in the deposition of the artificial retina's layers. They're also looking forward to actual production in space, which is awesome because we're getting close to the time that space-based enterprises, beyond research and communications, are becoming affordable. It's still hella expensive, but floating factories are gonna happen.

Sometimes when I'm feeling stressed or down, I watch this video. Makes me smile every time. How about that!

@dantheclamman well, we already could do that in a vacuum chamber on earth. I'm turn between appreciating the impulse to have a bit of fun exploring the new frontier and being somewhat miffed that they spent really valuable time doing something trivial like that

In the late 80s, an clam species called Potamocorbula amurensis was released accidentally in the San Francisco Bay, likely from the ballast of a ship. Found natively from Russia to Japan, these small clams dominated the SF Bay ecosystem within a few years. Pops have waxed + waned, but in some places, you can find up to 50,000 per sq m in the sediment. Newer biogeochemical models have to account for the behavior of the clams in modeling nutrient cycling. #clamfacts

I bet there's room for "disruption" in the market for network jacks. I'm probably not appreciating the engineering that goes into them, but $6 a pop seems high

@Pat idk. i tend to think it's less that Hollywood producers and executives, as a class, are racist, but more that they're cynical and think the public at large holds racialized stereotypes about people, so they play to those to make money.

In the future, you're going to get computers as prizes in breakfast cereals.
You'll throw them out because your house will be littered with them.

@izaya thanks. it turns out my power company actually has a website where they provide the data

@izaya that's for your house? If so, that's pretty neat. I'd be curious how you set that up. It only recently occurred to me, since I've been visually checking my meter on a regular basis, that I don't know how my electricity company actually reads my meter, so I've been reading up on it. I would like to have the kind of data your showing without needing to go out and look at my meter.

@yapo I doubt there are many setups as nice as yours. I think @izaya posted some photos of their desktop a while ago. I think of it as more functional that aesthetic though.

@Kovaelin I've little knowledge and less skill in robotics, but that's rather impressive for the time it took.

@trinsec I'm not sure I understand what this is. A collaborative drawing where what you draw gets erased after some time?
