Questo è un classico esempio di come trasferire (automaticamente e in modo arbitrario) il modello della memoria come bits di informazione al sistema nervoso fino a sviluppare un modello che alla fine ha poco o nulla a che fare con l’umano. Stando alla ipotesi poi gli elefanti dovrebbero avere sviluppato un linguaggio e funzioni cognitive ancora più evolute delle nostre.
L’ipotesi del sistema nervoso nato per “esfoliazione” da microcircuiti svincolati dalle funzioni di immediata sopravvivenza fu avanzata già dal matematico René Thom (Modelli matematici della morfogenesi, Einaudi) ma almeno lì c’era un minimo di originalità.
