@Beeks @Kraemer_HB @noksucow @MylesRyden @jeffjarvis Right. The Democrats in my state cancelled the presidential preference primary and just ran Biden. I never got a choice. *THAT* was anti-democratic. We need to fix it.
@tayfonay Wow. Do they prevent you, legally, from releasing it yourself open-access?
@JoshuaHolland Yup. Too bad whenever those concerns were raised, elected Democrats were all like "Ohhh, he's so articulate behind closed doors!"
If we had a chance to make a realistic assessment back then, we wouldn't be where we are now.
@natematias This makes sense to me. Experienced readers, by virtue of their experience, already have the context they need to understand the data. But more junior readers are lacking that context and look to the narrative portions to help them understand how the data fits into the bigger picture.
There's a similar phenomenon among programmers. Newer programmers prefer tutorials that take them all the way from point A to point Z. But more experienced programmers prefer technical docs that explain each point separately and in-depth, assuming the user already knows the greater context.
So, can you teach more junior readers to go to the data? Maybe, but that might mean they miss the bigger picture. There's just no replacement for established domain knowledge gained through experience.
Donald #Trump before the attack: We should kill all the libs and make America great again.
Donald Trump after the attack: We should kill all the libs and make America great again ... together.
Journalists: This is the day he became president.
@tehuti88 1. Harris is the obvious choice. Newsom said he won't run for P, but he might take VP as a pathway to future P, and having a white guy as her #2 would balance Harris' ticket.
2. Those lawsuits are coming no matter what. The bottom line is that it's the DNC who gets to choose who is on the ballot, and they still have time to make the change (the primary is still ongoing FFS!)
3. I never got a chance to vote for or against Biden in the primary because the DNC chose to cancel the primary in my state. What are you going to tell me?
Not for those who are sure Biden should stay in
@smitten @bhawthorne Exactly. So anyone saying that Biden deserves to be the candidate because "the people chose him" is totally full of shit. Many of us didn't have a choice at all.
Not for those who are sure Biden should stay in
@bhawthorne At the top, it says:
Official Primary Election Ballot
August 20, 2024
Democratic Party
[X] County, Florida
I did not receive a primary ballot in March.
According to this local newspaper, our party cancelled our Primary and just slapped Joe on the ticket:
"The Florida Democratic Party opted to put only President Joe Biden’s name on the 2024 primary ballot, effectively — and somewhat controversially — canceling the party’s primary."
Not for those who are sure Biden should stay in
@starlily @heidilifeldman "Chosen"? I got my primary ballot yesterday. The choice of president isn't even on it.
I want a say in who should be the candidate too.
Sooo. I am sitting in an ICE train in Germany. Train is - of course - delayed.
Train manager comes on and does an announcement about the upcoming delays.
Then he mentiones that the train is very full because a lot of air passengers have been rebooked onto the train by Lufthansa due to "a hacker attack against multiple airlines".
There has been no hacker attack, the airlines are just experiencing the consequences of their actions, specifically their vendor choice (crowdstrike) and their process choices (staggered rollouts? pish pash, damn the torpedoes and full steam ahead).
But now I am hearing passengers discussing why their kids online game does not work, which is certainly related to the hacker attack...
I am starting to understand so much about the dark ages...
🤦♂️
@TonyStark If they'll vote for Biden, a man who can't even get through a sentence without getting lost, then yes, they'll vote for anyone.
@aka_quant_noir @fmhilton @jeffjarvis So you guys have totally ruled out the possibility that they're saying this because they think it's the right thing to do right now? There *must* be some evil ulterior motive? They can't just be operating from a different set of facts or beliefs from you?
@MiriShuli @mentallyalex@beige.party I'm the one in this thread arguing that Harris should be on top of the ticket! To claim that I don't support her is absurd. To claim that I don't support her due to racism and misogyny, unsupported, is hideous.
@ErickaSimone I'm a registered Democrat who said in the thread that I'm voting for whoever's the Democrat candidate and I think that Harris, a black woman, should be on top of the ticket.
But, yeah, since I'm a white guy, despite everything I've actually said, I *must* be an evil racist misogynist.
@ErickaSimone @mousey @mentallyalex@beige.party Please do. You've spent most of this thread arguing against points you've imagined rather than what I actually wrote.
@ErickaSimone @mentallyalex@beige.party His time in office isn't what concerns me. It's his inability to effectively campaign and GOTV in the middle, and we need that. He just doesn't have the same level of energy and enthusiasm and coherence he had 4 years ago that made Trump look like the jackass he is.
Harris has what it takes to do it, but not from the ineffectual bottom of the ticket.
@mousey @ErickaSimone @mentallyalex@beige.party Biden's ego wouldn't let him go back to VP. Harris would have to pick another equally milquetoast establishment white guy to be her #2.
@GuyDudeman No, we need to capture swing voters, not repel them.
Harris / Unintimidating-centrist-establishment-white-guy 2024 is the real winning ticket.
